Huckabee (!) does the best among Democrats, Romney does the best with independents.

Huckabee doing the best amongst Democrats is actually not too surprising. Obviously no Republican is going to get the vote of Joe Liberal up in New Haven. The Democrats that will be voting Republicans will largely be Dixiecrats. Huckabee plays best with Dixiecrats, so that gives him a larger share of the Democratic vote than the other Republicans.

I'd love this, as it'd give Hillary a more realistic shot at winning.

They also poll this matchup:

Obama 40%
Palin 28%
Bloomberg 18%

That's actually higher than I remember Bloomberg doing in the hypothetical 3-way matchups from 2008.  I guess "none of the above" has become a more attractive option.

If I'm HIllary, I'm rethinking this race.

She cannot win as a dem but she can win as an indy.

Take a look at the poll.  She's pretty much tied with Palin and Obama.

Nearly every campaign book from the left-leaning media presents Hillary as a ruthless politician obsessed with winning the presidency.  If a poll showed you tied with the other woman who could beat you to your goal of becoming the first female nominee of a major party and the guy who played the race card against you, you certainly would listen.

Is she really that different from Murkowski on a personal level?  Murkowski could have waited until 2014 and got behind Miller.

Hillary is far too smart to stake her entire future in politics on a long shot bid in 2012. She has a pretty good chance in 2016. In this scenario her numbers wouldn't hold up. Her Republican and Republican leaning indie support would go to Palin. At least 50% of Democrats and Dem leaning indies would back Obama, probably more. All she would do is ensure a Palin victory.

I don't see her winning with Mark Warner, Brian Schweitzer, or perhaps Ann Klobuchar, Alex Sink, in the field.

She probably feels she can take down Palin and Obama.  Paint Palin as a right-wing extremist and Obama as a left-wing extremist.  Americans want an indy bid.  She's popular enough to pull it off.

I know why you don't want her to do it but everyone else, including the mainstream media, is yelling "Run Hillary Run."

The problem with running a Presidential campaign is you have to start 4 years ahead of time. Hillary was putting together strategy documents in 2004 for her 2008 run. Obama started running for President the second he got into the Senate, with the help of Tom Daschle. Palin knew she was going to make it a goal to run for President since even before election 2008, as soon as McCain's campaign became doomed, and has been planning for it ever since.

In short, even if Hillary were to decide today to run, it would be too late. While she has the advantage of maybe calling back some of the support and infrastructure she had in '07-'08, all those people would have to be willing to challenge a sitting President. And it would start to become obvious. This isn't the kind of thing that you can hide. Less than a year isn't enough time to put together the support and infrastructure. In short, unless she already decided to do this in 2009 and has been preparing for it in secret for at least a year now if not more, it's going to be very difficult. I'm not saying it's impossible.

Hillary went the distance in 2008. The moment Obama won the Democratic nomination in June 2008, was the moment when he lost the South Dakota primary. Losing a primary put him over the time. Hillary was fighting until the very end. She contested all 50 states, something that even Presidential candidates can't say they did. It was a grueling 6 month campaign from January to June, and before that a grueling one year campaign in all of 2007, and before that 3 years of planning. And what did she get for it? Lost to a state senator. Got called a racist. Had every sexist trope in the book thrown at her. I'm not sure she would want to put herself through that again. It's not like Queen Sarah where all she has to do is tweet and her zounds of conservative fans like yourself go crazy.

Dear lord, let's inject some reality... whatever you think of Clinton, she is a Democrat.

If Obama is the nominee in 2012 (which he undoubtedly will be), Clinton will support him... she knows a divided Democratic vote will give the Republican (and worst of them) victory.

If Hillary runs in '12, whether it's in the Dem primary or as an independent, then she's got my vote.  Otherwise, between Obama and Palin....ugh.  I dunno what I'd do!

MODIFIED:  If the race is a direct match up between Obama & Palin (no 3rd party) then as much as it pains me to say it, I'd probably vote for Obama.  Sad  I could be persuaded to vote for Palin (or any of the other top Republicans) mainly because I don't want to sell my country out to socialism by going with a socialist candidate like Obama but they, as a party and also as candidates, really need to re-evaluate their core issues.  They're basically a party of exclusion among race, sexuality, and gender.  Not trying to ruffle any feathers, but it's true.  If they want to start winning again, they need to drop this tea party nonsense, and focus more on fiscal responsibility (unlike Dubya & the Republicans of 2001-2006) and less on social issues like opposing gay marriage, of all things.  The party is moving in the wrong direction, leaving people like me to actually consider voting for the other guy.....

Ouch, has anyone checked out the trends on this poll?
When Scott Brown won the Kennedy seat in January, Obama was leading Romney 47 to 35. Now it's 41 to 40. Then, he was leading Palin 55 to 31. Now it' 48 to 35. If these trends continue on anything close to a linear basis, Obama will be trailing both by election day of 2012.
