As a self proclaimed "Stalinist", why would you?

No Marxist worth their weight in salt would support liberal democracy. It's existence is intrinsically tied to capitalism, and bourgeois humanism.

I never proclaimed myself a Stalinist at all, nor even a Marxist.  I think Marx had some great ideas, and was much more accurate in representing how the world actually works than any liberal (Euro sense), but I've never embraced Marxism.

That was directed at Winston.

ITT: People bitching about democracy because it doesn't facilitate a government that does what they want.

You say that like that's not what everyone, for thousands of years, has been doing when the engage in politics.

ITT: You posted a whiny comment.

You posted a whiny thread.

You are a whiny poster.

Do you want to continue this childish exchange forever?

I'm not the one who's bitching about a system of government because it doesn't effectively act as a means to my desired ends.

I'm not. I'm bitching because capitalist democracy doesn't work, as most people until the early 20th century recognized. Get over it.

I can't believe I'm asking this somewhat seriously, but can you tell us exactly what alternative system of government you do support this month?

Who says I have an alternative in mind? I am here to learn.

Actually it's not that hard to think of some alternative. Don't know whether any of them are much fun though.

Seeing as it seems to be one of those points where if you have any view other than 'it's omgawesome', let's hear it.

If you can ask the question, you have the answer.

In an ideal sense, liberal democracy is worth supporting if one prioritizes economic freedom, low taxation, individual autonomy in decision-making, robust competition throughout society, minimal state power over people, and therefore a government that presents as little of a threat to the endeavors and liberties of individuals as possible. Liberal democracy promotes freedom at the expense of state capacity, equality, and collective rights.

There are some viable alternatives to liberal democracy depending on what one expects from the state. Freedom, equality, rights, democracy, and so forth can be understood and valued (or even disregarded) in different ways. It seems commonplace for advocates of different systems to believe their way of doing things can offer everyone what they deserve without the system also inducing what others could consider to be serious social ills.

Sorry for grave-digging this thread by the way, but I hadn't noticed it until just now.

Alternatives that aren't totally awful, and in some contexts and designs might be better:

-Restrained constitutional democracy, ala America(though I'm not advocating America's constitution specifically)
-Whatever the  China's governmental system is called, it's kicking our ass.
-Techno/meritocratic semi-democracy, ala Singapore.
-Rule by Artificial intelligence
-Rule by some random radical intellectual movement?.... maybe. Doesn't have a good track record, what with communism and fascism's failures. Maybe it could be tried when we start settling Mars in some colonies.

You shouldn't. Social democracy and Christian democracy are both better systems. Not that liberal democracy really exists anymore, but whatever.
