Pretty major development in the Mass gubernatorial race -- Tim Cahill's LG pick, State Rep. Paul Loscocco (R-Holliston), dropped off the ticket today and endorsed Republican Charlie Baker.

LOL! That is fabulous!

Even if it hurts Patrick, you have to admire the pathos of this event.

Loscocco is a consummate political whore. Like a rat on a sinking ship (who wants to apply for a position in a Baker administration, no doubt) ...

This is interesting, but it would appear that Patrick does not need Cahill to secure re-election anymore.

So does Cahill still have time to replace him on the ticket, or have the ballots already been printed?

It's too late, he's stuck with him.

There's not a chance in hell that Cahill wins, so what the ballots say really isn't an issue. This is really the best possible scenario for Baker -- Cahill may hold his support among Dems through this, but take a hit with Republicans. If Cahill drops out, that may be a "win" for Patrick, so to speak.

I know that, of course. But I just thought it would be a bit, um..... awkward for Cahill.

The Globe had lots of quotes from people with a negative reaction toward the Republicans as a result of Loscocco's antics, which are so over-the-top as to make Cahill look sympathetic. The plural of anecdote is not data, but it's one plausible reaction--people feeling sorry for Cahill and finding the endorsement sleazy.

I wonder how many of the Cahill voters who say they would otherwise vote Patrick were originally Patrick supporters, or Cahill supporters who have a grudge against the Republicans for napalming Cahill's campaign beginning this summer and carry through to this event.

I really don't see this having a major impact on the polling or anything.

Yeah, this is a pretty minor factor, but the race is close enough that minor factors matter.

I was never entirely sure why Cahill picked Loscocco in the first place (other then simple reasons that I'm hoping weren't the case)

Oh well,
I'm still ridiculously fascinated by this guy's campaign

Hey, thanks Smiley

I've been lurking this place for sometime because the election atlas' info is so useful, and I'm a bit of a Harry Turtledove nerd so I have a thing for the Alt. History, especially elections, and the board here about them is pretty great. I've just been recently trying to get more involved with all of your discussions,

Also just to clear it up, I'm not voting for the guy or anything personally, I just think he's an irl troll and I love it, haha

Welcome indeed. Curious -- now that Kamal Jain lost his primary, are you supporing Mary Z. for auditor or Suzanne Bump? Or don't you care either way?

It's a bit of an insane contrast,
But at the moment, I'm leaning Charlie Baker with a gigantic soft spot for Jill Stein.
There have only been a few candidates this cycle that I've thrown my hands up in the air and sprinted too.

I've had the pleasure of getting to know and sit alongside Kamal as a fellow Coordinator for the MassLPA for a few years now. Since that was the case, when I first got behind him it was when he was running as an Unenrolled. So when he switched to run as an R, we all supported him the best we could because he was still Kamal and he didn't change anything but a letter next to his name and his slogan.
Now that he's is out, I'm on the fence a bit.
I'm not really overly excited by Mary Z., Suzanne Bump, or Nat Fortune.
If anything, I was hoping Kamal would have had a big enough impact in the Primary that Mary would have had to absorb some of his positions, but that doesn't seem to have been the case.
I will vote for one of the three, I just need to give it some more time.

Might as well reuse a thread than start a new one:

Reilly served as AG until 2006, when he lost a Democratic primary for governor to ... you guessed it ...
