This is an important issue that I feel we need immediate public opinion regarding.  Do you support the new Constitution with this language included?

I'm hopeful that this thread can generate the sort of debate that I've hoped to create throughout the Convention process.

At the moment, I'm leaning in favor of a reboot.

No opinion. As long as the current forum affairs legislation is retained, this has no effect on me whatsoever.

Would a re-boot affect the regions as well?

Absolutely, but of course I don't want us to lose sight of everything else by focusing too much on this one thing.

Sure.  I wasn't here for any of the original legislation, so why not?

I'm mixed on this. It would certainly create more Senate activity, but I don't know if we should abandon the historical aspect of this game.

I don't believe so, but I'm not really sure.  Perhaps you can write up an amendment making sure it would/wouldn't (your choice!) and I'll propose it in the ConCon?

Since it would have the practical effect of repealing everything, I'm all for it.  Just amend it so that the reboot is weekly. Wink

Yes....but at least you had confidence that what you did actually did have an effect on our imaginary "Atlasia".

I agree with this sentiment, and the only effect of a legislative re-boot would be that the present establishment simply look to the nullified laws to craft their new ones, which is a huge waste of everyone's time.

But every so many years, it might be necessary to have a legislative reboot since you simply run out of legislation.

I fail to understand the visceral negative reaction to a legislative restart. This attachment to legislation that passed years ago and that has no bearing on Atlasia today (and that almost no one has read in ages) is clogging the arteries of the game. A clean system would allow the game to become dynamic and fun again. Without it, we will just continue to tinker around the edges.

I see legislation as forever evolving. Most of the legislation corresponds to current events so on top of having to rewrite all the old laws, we'd also be looking at current events for new laws. The more I think about this, the more silly a reboot sounds. Sure, things aren't super active, but do we really need to scrap the entire game? I'm not so sure we do.

^ Then it comes down to those who care about the history of the game and those who see it as useless clutter, I suppose. Whichever camp you fall into will probably determine whether you support the reboot or not.

The history of this game lays not in the laws that are passed, but in the evolution of the issues that we confront as one people and in the rise and fall of parties and personalities. Remembering the contributions of Boss Tweed to the founding of the game, remembering Colin's time as president, remembering the rise of the JCP and the united Left under bgwah, and the RPP and the regional sovereignty movement under DWTL, PiT, Duke and SPC; those are all more important than the legislation that was passed along the way.

Yet, when a person joins the game and wants to get involved, it is the lengthy list of laws that they see first, not the history transmitted by word of mouth. And that is intimidating.

Clearing the legislation will not suddenly abolish the history of this game. It will simply be another piece of it, and an important step towards making sure that the game's future is just as dynamic as its founding.

But the point is, in this game, it doesn't. Once that legislation is written and passed, it's done with. We're not evolving right now. We're stuck in some sort of limbo. The reboot makes sense to me. We've run out of real legislation it seems. So the solution is to restart. What does it matter if we start again? Those that were around for this history will still have the memory of doing it. This game is NOT REAL!!!!!!! Those who were around at the beginning and there are only a few can look back and remember what they did on the wiki which can still be preserved. What kind of Freudian fixation is this?

I believe my vote has changed to leaning no for the following reasons posted in Dr. Cynic's rag fine journalistic endevour. Wink

What the game needs is not a legislative re-start, but rather a consolidation/re-organization of the existing statute, so that it is not so intimidating and cumbersome to lumber through.  My thoughts are to create an index on the wiki, alphabetical by subject matter.  As President, I will work to make this happen.

Amen! I believe I'd also suggested something like this, codifying current statutes under a numerically organized code similar to the U.S.C.

Once I have the budget and some storylines up, I'm all about helping on this.

Andrew? Duke? What are your thoughts here?

Aren't they codified?  I thought they were codified already.  And that didn't help anything.

Or, at least, there was a law that established some sort of codified system.  But no.  one.  ever.  pays.  attention.  to.  past.  laws.  period.  full stop.
