She is the kind of Democrat a lot of Republicans should like in Missouri, and her advertising campaign against Blunt has been very strong.

Looks to be a case of West Virginia to me. The Democrats can do spectacularly well on the state level in Missouri, but in a year like this, there's not a remote chance in hell one will reach the Senate.

Surely there's a "remote chance in hell" of such in West Virginia...

Yeah actually, Raese screwed it up with his "hick ad," which Manchin has been hitting him pretty hard on.

I probably should have clarified that, since the chances are still pretty high in WV, thanks to Manchin seemingly being the Appalachian version of Freudenthal, although it's pretty well a toss-up. But in Missouri...no.

The environment and the fact that Blunt was pretty much able to be generic Republican.

McCain (barely) carried Missouri in 2008 - if a weak republican can carry the state against a very strong Dem in 2008, what does that say for a generic Dem versus a Generic GOP in 2010.

She is swimming against a very strong tide. - Just the wrong year is all.

I wonder why Bill Clinton is campaigning for Lincoln, Conway and Manchin, but not for Carnahan.

I remember that Clinton was quite a popular Democrat in Missouri.

Instead Bill goes to Colorado, a state where he should set no foot in.

The Carnahan name is just not as invincible as first thought, especially in unfavorable cycles for the Democrats.  Just ask Robin's mom.

I know! Clinton is wasting his time in FL for Meek too. He could be so much more effective in MO.

In addition to what was said above, Carnahan is facing a huge advertising gap.  The number Republican-friendly ads aired in the Missouri Senate race  from 9/1 - 10/7 outpaced Democratic-friendly ads by a 2-1 margin.

This year, people don't want to hear nothing about political families. Carnahan isn't popular in the state, but she could be doing better if she asked for obama's help (black turnout is very important)

Why did Bill campaign for Bennet's primary opponent even?  It has a lot to do with who his friends and allies are.

Whom did Carnahan back in the 2008 primary?  I know Russ Carnahan backed Obama early...

"When few believed Barack Obama had a chance to win the presidency, and the remnants of the Gephardt machine in his 3rd Congressional District were staunchly in support of Hillary Clinton, U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan endorsed Obama for the Democratic nomination."

Because Obama health care plan got a fat zero in MO during thie primary campaign and it went down to defeat. Obama doesn't have the appeal in MO. Clair McCaskell and Robin Carnahan wants the mandated coverage like Obama does.

No. Obama is polarizing and his appearence in Missouri earlier was not good for Carnahan.
