Thank you, Mr. President.

This bill was originally part of a larger piece of legislation that I introduced in the Mideast Assembly, you can view the complete document here, if you want.  However, I realized that the Senate likes to think things apart, and scrap large sections of bills, so I thought I'd save us the trouble and just introduce a (hopefully) non-controversial section. Tongue

The main reason for this bill is to insure that every home in Atlasia can be made energy efficient. It also has the added effect of giving every household some welcome tax relief in these tough economic  times.

I look forward to debating this bill. Wink

I would ask, did you check to see if there were past bills that overlap with this one?

After searching through the Statue on the Wiki, I think these are the only two conflicting pieces of legislation:

Section Four
of the Clean Power Act

10% tax rebate does sound a little excessive....no?

Well, as I said, this was proposed on a regional level, originally. So some of the numbers might seem "off". That being said, I have a friendly amendment to propose:

But the money they would get back in taxes under this proposal has no relation whatsoever to the cost of purchasing the "clean energy device", isn't this a problem?

In other words, someone that makes over a certain amount might actually MAKE money out of making the purchase.

Would it not be more sensible to refund a certain percentage of the value of the "clean energy device" rather than a percentage of income taxes?

I object to the amendment for the reasons already mentioned. That said, I'm very willing to write an amendment myself to address the concerns I have.

Well the point of the deduction on their taxes is to encourage someone to buy a clean energy device.

I am willing to look at your idea, however, Franzl. Wink

FYI: Here's a link listing various current RL energy efficiency tax credits. Whether you al want to change the levels of credit and/or applicability, this should at least give you the right language and framework to use.

Goodness, Barnesy! The thought of someone being energy efficient turns you into a right winger on economics! Good job! Tongue

Haha, hardly. Wink

I just think that this is a common-sense measure to ensure a greener future for Atlasians.

Wait until I unearth the other parts of that bill! Evil

I already authored a bill cutting corporate taxes by a minute 2-3% if a company is energy efficient, so part of those incentives are in place. But 10% is even higher than I'd go! I'm impressed. Tongue

Aye - that's a bit more reasonable than a 10% flat rate. It's not like we are running budget surpluses here where we can give away money.

Aye.

It's an improvement over the original wording, but I still intend to offer an alternative.

Ah that...yes indeed. Haven't really been working, but I'll get it out. Not like it'll take that much time to do... Sorry Smiley
