Matt Santos.


He wasn't nearly as strong as Alan Alda's Arnold Vinick as a character.  Plus the whole concept of a congressman being nominated for president in the modern era is incredibly unlikely (and defeating the sitting Vice President!), in my opinion.

Santos was purely a paper character in a comparision to a strong and complex character or Vinick.

As of Hoynes, that was a character with a great potential in storyline, but writers blew it.

Hell, Bingo Bob was more interesting than a bore Santos.

And as NiK mentioned, Congressman winning a nomination was unlikely. There would be no problem in making Santos, let see, a first term Senator or Governor.

And, more importantly, a low tier wouldn't win under any change and hope banner, with a Democrat as an incumbent, so all Obama modeling was just another fail.
