BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - A new poll conducted by Goldhaber Research Associates, LLC shows Republican Carl Paladino to have a large lead over Democrat Andrew Cuomo among likely voters in Erie County.
The research poll shows likely voters in Erie County favor Carl Paladino over Andrew Cuomo, 48-29 percent. Republican voters in Erie County favor Paladino over Cuomo 73-7 percent, while Independents support Paladino 57-15 percent. Cuomo leads Paladino among Democrat voters 48-30 percent.
The research poll questioned 476 likely voters in Erie County between October 19 and 23, with a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent.

Not a huge shock. Paladino is very popular in Buffalo for whatever reason. (It is his home town, and that Matters, with a uppercase letter, in Upstate.) A little weird that he does so well among Democrats, though.
He could still lose in a landslide while winning Erie County. NYC, NYC suburbs, and the Hudson Valley will be strongly for Cuomo, but the pop/soda boundary (which runs through Rochester) will mark a strong transition to strength for Paladino.

It's just Erie County, not NY in general.

Clearly the solution is to privatize presidential elections.
So, in less than four years, get excited for the 2016 MetLife Financial U Pick The Prez Extravaganza. If you tweet a picture of your completed ballot with the hashtag #ivoted, you could win a trip for two to the inauguration or an iTunes gift card.

For hometown Mattering in Upstate, see the 2002 gubernatorial election. Golisano wins 14% of the vote statewide while winning Monroe County.
Also, Erie County is a lot more Democratic at the federal level than the state level in general.

Paladino is going to run very strongly in western New York and terribly everywhere else, basically. His running mate is from western New York too.

It says "Democrat voters", which is a way of referring to Democrats. A Democrat is a Democrat, not a Democratic.

No, "Democrat voters" is not a (correct) way of referring to Democrats. "Democrat" is a noun; "Democratic" is an adjective. "Voter" is also a noun, and therefore putting two otherwise unrelated nouns together like that is incorrect.

This isn't surprising at all, he ran up crazy high numbers in the county in the primary, so he's got some appeal in that area.

The phrase "Democrat voters" has been used by the
AP
,
Reuters
and
USA Today
, among others. It is perfectly proper to do so. Unlike the party, individual voters are never referred to as "Democratics".

That's the first time media outlets have consistently made the same mistakes, right?

No, no it isn't.
Also, you'll note that Democrats themselves never do it. Why do you think that is?

Wow, did you ever study English? An individual voter is a noun, and therefore is a Democrat. Again, "Democratic" is an
adjective

(I often wonder how many people who use this phrase incorrectly are deliberately trolling, or have simply been misled by those who are.)

I'm pretty sure you've had this exact same argument with Carl before. It's obvious that the people who do it only do it because it pisses Democrats off.

While Erie County voted for Mondale, it did also vote for Pataki all 3 times. Anyways, Paladino can have fun winning his own county while he loses badly statewide.

Absolutely, which I find slightly ironic since I'm not a Democrat.
But yes, it's inherently a form of real-life trolling.

I dunno...what if you were describing the person being voted for rather than the voter.
Like, "that Republican supports Democrats, he's a Democrat supporter" doesn't sound as trollish as most cases

The "people who did it" here was a Buffalo TV station website. It's not uncommon to see newspapers or news websites use Democrat as an adjective, particularly when referring to voters, not the Democratic Party itself. This is especially true in headlines, or in other cases where space is at a premium.
Democrats have no inherent right to tell the rest of us what words we can use.

It's so hilarious that grammar is a political issue with some. Everything is not a huge political drama. You can use whatever you want, but that doesn't make it grammatically correct.
