Since the Democratic Party is basically dead, I plan on switching to Independent--Not the Independent Party, just a registered Independent. The Democratic Party committed suicide sadly, so really it's either GOP or Independent.

It'd be much more prudent to switch countries at this point.

Is this a "Democratic party is too extreme for me" switch to Indie or a "Democratic party is too moderate for me" switch to indie?

I've never been registered as a political party and never will be. There are none that meet my ideology. But I guess in a way I switched from being a republican voter to being a third party voter almost exclusively. I don't see myself switching from third parties back to the main two scum any time soon though, unless one of them actually adopts a localist anti-corporatism platform.

I have no plans to be anything other than an independent ever. Of course if i end up moving to a state with closed primary's and there is a candidate running who i agree with and like alot. I would likely register then.

I don't see any reason to switch from being a registered independent unless MA ever adopts closed primaries.  If the Libertarian Party doesn't nominate W.A.R. in 2012, then I might send in the $20 or whatever to become a "member."

Democratic Party is dead? Lol what? The GOP wasn't dead after 2006; the Dems weren't dead after 1994, the GOP wasn't dead after Watergate, or after 1964, or after 1932, etc etc etc.

As long as the liberal progressive wing of the Democratic Party has a voice within the party I will stay registered as a Democrat.  Just because every progressive stance doesn't become reality doesn't mean I'm going to pack my bags and leave.  As long as I can see that the general direction of the Democratic Party is towards progressivism I'll stick around.

You have be registered as a Democrat anyway to vote in Democratic primaries in New Jersey.

It will be good not to be registered as a Democrat when President Palin starts making the lists of registered Democrats..

I will register Republican to vote for Ron Paul in New York's stupid closed primaries, and then I will switch back to independent.

Friendly reminder; I think in NY you have to be registered in the party for like a year or some obscenely long time like that in order to vote in a primary. Make sure you switch to the GOP early enough Smiley

These guys are much too young (my apologies if they are old and just stupid) to know politics is cyclical.

Having voted before and lived through several elections; I know its cyclical. The Democratic Party just doesn't really fit for me at all.

I am much much younger than Torie though; I'd imagine Tongue

I had thought about leaving the party during the health care thing (for the bill not being nearly liberal enough for my liking), but then I grew up and moved on with life. I'll probably stay a Democrat until some viable left-wing alternative rises in this country (11 or 12 lives from now, most likely).

You (and everyone else) should abandon their ties to political parties and truly become independent.  Embrace it my friend!  Throw on the pale-green avatar and walk side-by-side with us in unity!
