TRANSCRIPT

Regional Capitol
New York City

Northeast Rep. Polnut (UDL - MA)

The Yale Law School Alumni Dinner - New Haven, CT
Thursday - 2 December 2010

Thank you Dean for that welcome,

You appear to have decided to hold this dinner at a very good time for press coverage.

You will be aware of the change that occurred in the progressive side of our national politics yesterday. I like many progressive politicians and officials joined the new Union of Democratic Left.

Many might be surprised by this move, especially those of you who are supportive of the JCP. Let again repeat what has now been said by many of my party colleagues. When we are in competition with the JCP it is done with the best possible spirit, when we are not we consider the JCP to be our partners. While those of us who left the JCP for the UDL had a multitude of reasons, the appreciation to the leaders and ordinary members of the JCP remains deeply intact and entrenched in this new party.

Last week, we saw one of the flagrant attacks on the rule of law, and the foundations of liberal democracy that I have ever seen in my time in Atlasia.

The Nullification Resolution presented to the Assembly, passed by it, and sadly signed by the Governor is a gutting of the authority of the judiciary. What people may say about me, the one thing I can say in return is that I consider the most vital foundation to our democracy to be the clear separation of authority and responsibility across three branches of Government.

Although done in the name of freedom, and wrapped in a flag and a POP pamphlet, this did nothing but endanger the freedom of ordinary men and women from a simple majority in the Assembly who might have no just cause to consider it unconstitutional besides their ideological dislike for it.

Even though I am a legislator, and I have a legal background it is not, repeat not our role as legislators to determine the constitutionality of laws. There are judicial avenues in the event that legislation appears to counter the constitution.

So rather than respecting our institutions, based upon a constitution passed not very long ago indeed. They are attempting, almost through stealth to turn this region into an extreme libertarian bastion.

When the time comes, I don't care who you vote for, we need a strong turnout at the Assembly elections. Are the views of fear and paranoia toward the state, voting down virtually everything really representing the views of the citizens of this region.

I personally, have no dislike for any of my Assembly colleagues, which might come as a surprise.  But we just clearly have radically different world views. I have tried my best to work with those who were prepared to genuinely negotiate. People may wonder why I keep bothering to put up Bills... because I know, I have an important role to play. I need to show people that this region is not lost, there are plenty of people out there who are not happy with the current situation.

I look forward to what I can do for the region, but also look forward to seeing what all of you will be doing for the region.

Thanks.

A question, Rep. Polnut.......who in the Northeast is responsible for notifying its citizens of elections?  I urge you to hold that person's feet to the fire as I didn't receive a PM for the Special Election as is common courtesy for the citizens to receive!!

This, quite frankly, is bull.

Thanks......

Yes......it's quite wrong.  I wouldn't have posted in Polnut's thread but the Governor doesn't have one of his own.......again, wrong.

The NE has a few administrative things to figure out, I see.

Hmm, looks like you ought to return back to Assembly and fix it. Smiley

No, but seriously - the Governor does have his own thread - it's in the Regional Governments childboard.

Indeed!  If Verily misses a few more votes, we may have to have another special election . . .

If I'm not mistaken he has missed three consecutive votes...

One more and he bites the dust. Tongue

PRESS RELEASE

The Office of Northeast Representative Polnut (UDL - MA)
Boston, Massachusetts

Monday - 13 December 2010

Hopefully you will all be aware of what is presently going on in the NE Assembly. I urge ALL citizens to make their feelings on this known to their representatives.

This is just one of many assaults on our system of government that is being launched by some members of our Assembly. These are small changes, but combined, build a disturbing picture.

I will NOT be voting for anything that undermines the foundations of democracy.

Though me and Representative Polnut do not agree politically on most things, we do agree that there are right ways and wrong ways to go about doing things in the Assembly. I stand firm with Representative Polnut in opposition to these egregious tactics.

We agree that this has nothing to to do with politics, but respect for the foundations of democracy....

I appreciate Representative Rowan's active support in this.

PRESS RELEASE

The Office of Northeast Representative Polnut (UDL - MA)
Boston, Massachusetts

Thursday - 16 December 2010

We are seeing another attempt to undertake an extremist take-over of the Assembly of the Northeast.

Due to the defeat of the hyper-paranoia based taxation Bill today, we now have an omnibus of extremist and utterly unrepresentative acts.

I want all citizens of the Northeast to know that I will be doing everything possible to advocate for reason and common sense to all of my Assembly colleagues.

It is, for this reason, and this reason alone that I want as many of you to vote this weekend as you can, while I would love your support, I hope that those who think the region and some who represent it have gotten out of control, realise that there is one option.

Vote, and vote for those who actually represent you and your aspirations.

Random comment about the UDL, Polnut. I'm going to add the UDL to the intro thread, and as Chairman, if we want a summary posted, you need to write up a 100 word or less summary of the party. Not a huge deal, but whenever you can get around to it.

I have added some additional town-hall meetings into early January.

Also would like to announce that in response to a few PMs I have received there is no way, no how I would consider running for the Presidency.
