Better go change it.
I was betting on no new polls being released.

And he's at 50%, too. Great.
I can only hope the results differ.

Vermont, certainly, is the best state ever. I hope I go back to that great place soon.

VT has a 50 plus one rule; if the winner gets under 50%, the Legislature picks the next governor.
Even if Dubie beats Shumlin with under 50%, the heavily Democratic Legislature will pick Shumlin.

Anyways, I suppose Shumlin wins, not that it matters to me in any way. Just took a look around his site, seems like he will be a fine governor. I guess eight years is as far as you can get as a Republican in Vermont.

I thought you supported Dubie? Where did I get such a misconception...?

I can't imagine that the Democrats would pick the person who didn't receive the most votes. That would be horribly undemocratic and basically rob Shumlin of any political capital or legitimacy. He'd probably get voted out in two years.

Jesus Christ, how many times must I go over this:
1. Florida law entitled Al Gore to seek a recount. Al Gore's campaign asked for a recount, but only in the 3 most heavily Democratic counties (presumably hoping enough votes would be "found" to put him over the top).
2. The Bush campaign sued and asked the SCotUS that the recount either be done in every county or not at all.
3. The SCotUS ruled that the recount had to either be done in every county or not at all.
4. Gore conceded rather than ask for a recount in every county.

Damn it! I was hoping Dubie would win. He is one of the more reasonable Republicans running this cycle.

Which is obviously a horrible system if allowing the legislature to put in the guy who got less votes is also a horrible system.

Well, if the current Republican Governor hadn't vetoed IRV... (which isn't as good a method as many of the Condorcet methods but would have presumably gotten rid of the provision for the Legislature to elect the Governor in the event of no candidate getting a majority; someone correct me if I'm wrong about that)

Doulgas' initial victory was by a plurality and the Democratic House voted him in as Governor.

Think of the legislature as an electoral college if you'd like. More candidates supporting X win, so X gets elected even though Y had more votes overall... sounds like the Electoral College to me.
