They really aren't.  Their rhetoric is far to the right of their policy.

don't be so sure, I was for TARP from the beginning, but it initially failed in Congress due to lack of GOP support.  I was for the GM bailout, though I would have structured it totally differently (I would have cut the unions out, else I would have let GM fail).  I was for the stimulus, though I would have structured it totally differently (would have spent the money to 100% wean our infrastructure off of oil and onto natgas for transportation and nukes for electricity.)

I am much more "moderate" than the average GOP primary voter.  I am not afraid to spend money, but I would spend money on long term goals instead of spending money on the status quo.

The word you're looking for is "frightening" or "terrifying", especially if one is a poor.

When most Republicans are more afraid of being defeated in the primary than in the general election, this is not surprising.

That's because jmfcst has a brain. Whenever I think of the GOP nowadays the first (and only) image that pops into the head is a person screaming shrilly at the top of their lungs.

GOP isn't against spending money. They would just rather spend the money bombing Iraq than providing healthcare to poor children.

Speaker Boehner will be wildly popular in 2012.

Not really.  You're about a +4 on those matrix/compass quiz scores, as I recall.  Not all that far to my right, really.  I think the center of the GOP swings around a bit, to for it to be to your right is not unusual.

I will say that I think the center of the Democrat party has bigger swings in this regard, at least over the past few decades it has had greater movement of its center than the GOP.
