First grade A candidate for Republicans. Let's hope they find and get many more through the primaries for 2012.

This was expected after Heineman declined to run. Nelson's probably not gonna get any DSCC funds either, considering they have more reliable seats to defend, and some to go on offensive, too.

I imagine a dirty sock could beat Ben Nelson at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nelson retires.

On the plus side, this probably prevents Nelson switching parties.

Having lived in FL for five years (college), I'll you this, Nelson is one tough, arrogant guy.  He's not going to go down so easily and Seniors love him.

Woops.  My bad.  I don't think anyone is going to beat Ben Nelson though.  1996 was his only bad outting.

It would be interesting to see if there was a GOP candidate in Nebraska who couldn't beat ben nelson at this point.

If Jeb is at the top of the ticket, you never know.  Jeb's a longshot to run though.

I'd like one of them to lose at least so all the name confusion can cease.

You know, if the Republicans are already lining up top tier challengers for Nelson two years out...yeah, the dude's screwed.

Don't mean to boast, but called this in 2007, hence why I have mentioned him consistently when NE 2012 came up. Its clear that likely some kind of deal was made in late 2007 so that Bruning would drop out and Johanns could run away with it in 2008, my hunch that the deal was giving Bruning a clear shot at Nelson.

Bruning, atleast when he ran in 2008, was running to the right of Johanns. Hard to see him not appealing to the Tea Party types. But its a long way out.

Nelson certainly has a chance y'all. Nelson's a little bit better entrenched than Blanche Lincoln (although he's certainly in serious trouble) and a lot can happen in two years.

Actually, when I first glanced at this, I thought it said "Jim Bunning announces an exploratory committee" and thought "OMG! Is that old fart actually considering a run for President?"

Of course he has a chance. He has beaten back GOP candidates before in Presidential years. Though some of the prognostications that he was unassailable, based on his 2006 performance, were entirely BS, even before Health Care.

Yeah and even some of the brightest candidates, whom we know a lot about from a lengthy public career, like Mark Kirk and Richard Blumenthal, took epic nosedives after they were their party's nominees or de facto nominees due to events.  They both caught themselves, and won, of course (of course).

Is it just me, or is having the contribute now and volunteer buttons on the left hand side a poor choice?

1.  Why?  Political website designs are like one of my passions, would be interested in hearing more.

2.  The site is still new...it's got broken images and an empty events column, at least in my Chrome.

1. I am aware, why do you think I posted that here? Tongue

2. Yes, I have the same

It feels more awkward on the left then the right. In my opinion the path of least resistence towards scrolling over and clicking would be on the right not the left.
