The main reason MD-03 looks kind of weird is because Sarbanes lives so close to Ruppersberger (In Towson). The weirdness around the border with MD-05 is because of an unpopulated river precinct needed to connect to Annapolis. If Maryland didn't have those annoying areas like most states it'd look much cleaner. I drew Harris out of his district but we all know how much the Democrats would care.

MD-04 is 55% black and MD-07 is 59% black. All Democratic seats are over 60% Obama except 3 which is 58% Obama.

It's possible, but I highly doubt the legislature is going to split up the Eastern Shore just to push MD-01 a couple more points to the Democrats.

Cecil County isn't really the Eastern Shore. It has more in common with Harford County, Carroll County and the rural parts of Baltimore County.

Not if it's 59% Obama. Then you don't care who the Democrats nominate (within reason)--certainly no need for a moderate in such a seat. Not like Obama did well on the Eastern Shore, either.

Cecil is basically Philly/Wilmington, DE exurbs. Don't see it as part of the Eastern Shore at all.

Yeah well I bet a lot of the locals in Michele Bachmann's district think they live in a "rural" area. Actually there are plenty of people in parts of Hennepin County that think what they live in is "rural". Didn't Philip once argue he lived in a rural area when he lived in Loudoun County?

Okay, here you go, Cecil County split up (the Elkton area went about 50/50 for Obama, so I left it in MD-01):




MD-01 - 59.9% Obama
MD-05 - 65.8% Obama
MD-06 - 64.8% McCain
MD-08 - 65.6% Obama

The other four districts were untouched.

There's no reason that they shouldn't go for a 7-1 map (unless they think that an 8-0 map isn't crazy). Make one district be around 65% McCain. The panhandle together with parts of the pennisula would work. The rest of the state can be safely made into 7 safe Democratic districts, with the required number being black majority.
