Doesn't Sanders have his seat up in 2012? I'd rather keep that then run a failed independent campaign for president. Or would he run as a Democrat?

At least Sanders has the balls to stick to what he promises on the campaign trail.

If you are a Republican, hope that Sanders runs as an indy rather than primarying Obama.

The latter provides obama with the opportunity to look moderate.  The former will instead provide Sanders with the opportunity to appear like a pro-gay marriage/pro-surrender populist.  Indies would vote for a third-party bid from Sanders if he had money to push such a message.

Even though Sanders is a socialist, I admire him for the reason redcommander outlined: he has balls and he's honest. I would support him if there were no other good options.

If the GOP candidate sucks (Palin, Romney, Daniels, Bolton, Santorum ect...) and the Libertarian candidate isn't much better I would vote for him. I am not a socialist but he is honest and to quote redcommander:

He'd remain an Independent.

Unlike a serious primary challenge to Obama (at this point, at least), I think this could realistically happen. Sanders could still run for re-election while running for President and probably pull in 1 to 2% of the popular vote.

I'd vote for Sanders out of principle, if were American and if it were such situation, but sadly, there is no chance for him to come anywhere close to winning Sad

I'd consider voting for him. I'd probably end up still voting for Obama, but if it looked like it was either going to be an easy victory for Obama or a big defeat for him I might vote for him.

I'd vote for Sanders no matter what polls indicated.

I can't imagine the attack ads the Republicans would come up with were he the Democratic nominee.

They wouldn't be necessary. Well, maybe they would be if we wanted to take all 50 states instead of just 45.  Wink

Well, presumably, they'd only get 49 states if he was nominated, considering that Sanders is popular in Vermont. Tongue

I wonder what the chances of him embarking on such a campaign are?

The Pubbies are just not going to get this lucky. If Sanders does run, I doubt he will do much better than Nader 2000. But what Nader did was not chump change.

Is there any reason at all to believe he has an interest in running?  Anyone can set up a "Draft so-and-so" website.

Agreed. From looking at the issues page on that site, I get the feeling that someone just fell in love with him after hearing about his mega-filibuster of the Obama tax deal.

If he did run, maybe the Republicans could win Vermont?

I would love to see Sanders as a Presidential nominee in 2012.

It would only hurt the Dems.
