The shows I watch...

Republican: The Amazing Race, Modern Family, Survivor, How I Met Your Mother

Democrat: Mad Men, Dexter, Brothers and Sisters, 30 Rock

Shows I'd never watch...

Republican: Glenn Beck, The Mentalist, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives, The Bachelor, Lie To Me, Two and a Half Men

Democrat: Keith Olbermann, 90210, Private Practice, The Good Wife, Law and Order: SVU.

Shows I've never heard of...

Republican: none

Democrat: Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, Damages.

So...politically, I'd be a learn Republican based on this?

The only genuinely decent show on either list is Breaking Bad. 30 Rock is ok, and Mad Men was good in its first season (until it moved from being a look into cultural changes in the early 60's to being Nip/Tuck with fedoras). Other than that, neither side has particularly good taste.

I apperently have very Republican TV-taste. I watch Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, and Big Bang Theory, none of the Democratic ones.

Unfortunately I can't be too proud of this list thanks to Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami and 90210. And while Dancing With the Stars didn't make the Democratic list it has the same score and is just barely off it.

I always figured Desperate Housewives appealed more to liberal soccer moms types. I guess it's actually Stepford Wives-types watching it.

Amazed South Park didn't make the Republican list and that Family Guy didn't make the Democratic list.

Trust me, more liberals watch South Park. Socially, it's a liberal show (and left-leaning by default since they rarely do episodes about the economy, and even then it's relatively generic messaging)

You need to watch better shows.

Most of the US shows are not even shown here in Austria and Germany.

And if they are shown, about 1 or 2 years after they have aired in the US.

Watch this trailer for Breaking Bad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--z4YzxlT8o

If this doesn't convince you to watch the show, I don't know what will.

I watch 30 Rock, Daily Show, Colbert Report, ATHF, and Conan off the liberals list. The only  conservative show I care for is Top Gear(UK).

Among current shows, I only watch Mad Men and Breaking Bad, the latter easily being the best thing on TV right now. The only other things I watch on TV would be news, movies, NFL and NBA.

The Sopranos is my favorite TV show of all-time. The only reality TV show I've ever liked is Unsolved Mysteries (1980s/1990s), which I almost put up there with The Sopranos. The Wire is pretty good, too. My favorite TV mini-series is easily House of Cards.

These are not the most popular shows with each demographic. They are the shows that have the greatest skew. I don't watch much tv, but Mad Men and the Daily Show are two of my favorites. Daily Show is understandable, but didn't think Mad Men would have a political orientation. Maybe it's too urban and critical or the inner workings of business for Republicans. My mother (also a Democrat) loves SVU. I find that show intensely repulsive. I'm certainly not in favor of censorship, but an entire show about child sex abuse doesn't sit well with me. Entertainment should not center around such a fundamentally awful topic.

Looks like I'm a bit out of touch.  I don't even know most of those shows.  There are a few whose titles I recognize, but in most cases I can't honestly say I've watched them.  The few I have watched, I don't care for.  (And I watch quite a bit of television actually!)

So, either I have dreadful taste in television, or the Republicans and Democrats in this poll have dreadful tastes in television.

It's possible that both of those things are true, of course. The people interviewed for the poll certainly have dreadful taste in television, so the question turns on your taste.

Ha!  Indeed it does.  I thought even as I typed it that someone wasn't going to let me get away with faulty bit of logic.  Should have known it'd be you.

In all fairness, though, I am not familiar with at least half the shows that the Republicans and Democrats are picking.  I'm just assuming that they're shit.  If you've ever done any channel-surfing here you'll agree that it's probably a safe assumption.  I get something like 79 channels, and at any time I'm lucky if one of them has something on worth watching.

It is pretty fascinating how the top 15 is totally different for each party.

It has to be different. It's not a list of most popular shows per party. It's a list of which shows have the strongest partisan slant. And except for obvious ones like Glenn Beck, the skew isn't even that strong.
