Does anyone find it interesting that in 2000, Rick Santorum was able to win re-election in PA (by a clear margin) but George W. Bush wasn't able to carry the state? I would think that Santorum's voters would've gladly have transferred voted for Bush.

Indeed, I don't know why a Santorum supporter would have voted for Gore in 2000.

The funny thing is that if they did all vote for Bush, he would have won even if Gore won Florida. (It would have been a tie, but the House would have voted for Bush.)

Yeah, I admit I still don't understand how Santorum survived that time. Probably a weak opponent, dunno...

Ron Klink, the 2000 Dem, was a pretty conservative candidate from western PA. Probably didn't play well with the suburban Philly voters; I guess they went with the devil they knew.

Ron Klink wasn't a serious challenger. Liberals refused to back him due to social issues.
