If he's off the ballot: toss-up. Assuming Obama wins he'd probably have coattails that would carry  the Democrat to victory here. The Cook PVI is even in MI-11

Something isn't right here. The Presidential bid, failing to get enough signatures to run for re-election...I think someone might be trying to say that he has had enough.

We had a situation like that here this year.  A young rising star Dem State Representative files over 1,200 signatures. He only needed 300. Over 900 were bad. He represents an overwhelmingly Dem/minority district yet claimed a lot of the signers must have been Republicans (because he went to church events with his petitions). First of all, no Democrat is unlucky enough to find that many signers and have them end up being Republicans especially in his area. Secondly, it would be hard enough to find, say, 500 Republicans in the district to sign for one of our own candidates but he was able to find more? His other excuse was that too many women must have signed using their maiden names. Not buying that one either. After everyone got over the shock, word started to circulate that he wanted out.

There's some Paulite Republican who's also running. Maybe this rich college Republican will go all in for him in the general.

Can he run as a write-in in the primary?

Best part is, he's my Congressman Tongue

It makes the race a toss-up, but the redistricting made this district R+5 I believe. So it would be hard for a Democrat to take it, but if they get momentum out of a primary, we could go into blue hands Sad

Looks like he has to campaign as a write-in candidate.

This was a really weird story.  Clearly some fraud happened.  It's almost like whoever did it wanted to get caught - it was so bad.  And to only get 244 or 242 or whatever it was signatures - that's pretty sad.  McCotter's always been a little out there, but this was just weird.

The term "epic fail" may be a bit overused, but it is very appropriate here.

McCotter had a rough year this year. His presidential run was a flop and now this. Talk about bad luck. Maybe he could have been Speaker Of The House one day. I know Conservatives liked him(both establishment and Tea Partiers.)

The GOP is supporting former State Senator Nancy Cassis as a write-in candidate. Kerry Bentivolio who is a reindeer rancher is on the primary ballot for the district. Guess the GOP would rather go with the former State Senator than the reindeer rancher. This whole GOP primary for the 11th is getting funnier and funnier!

Haha, that's hilarious. So it's an essentially free Democratic gain now, right?

No. The Pub PVI is too high. It will be sorted out.

Yeah, at the end of the day, there will be a Republican on the ballot, and they'll get the standard Republican votes, which should be enough.

The CD in its new iteration also went considerably more upmarket, and the Pubs in it tend to be quite upscale and educated. The Pubs will be perfectly able to write in a name.

They don't even need to do a write-in in the general, do they? Either the Tea Party farmer or the write-in state senator will win the primary, and they'll be on the ballot for the general.

It a fairly safe Republican district, even in the event it was write in Rep VS Rep VS Dem (like in Alaska), and its more likely that the primary will be write in Rep VS Rep anyway.

The district isn't THAT republican. If there are 2 GOPers and 1 democrat running, I'm sure Dems will take the seat.
