Nah, I don't see him running for re-election. Provided he doesn't resign first. If this story continues he could also even be primaried, although that is admittedly less likely than not if he does run again.

I think he retires. I doubt a primary would be effective though, and obviously the Democrat is going to win any general election.

Rangel already faced a primary this year and won handily.

He's holding Adam Clayton Powell's seat.  He still will in2013, unless he becomes very ill or dies.

I think he got 50%. It was a wide margin of victory considering he had a ton of opponents but it makes you wonder if he would have survived in a head-to-head.

My wild guess is that Rangel will be there forever.

the man has a giant ego - he will not resign and he will run for re-election. the only chance he has to be gone from Congress while he is still alive is if a very strong primary candidate emerges.

I honestly don't think most of his constituents care about that.

Most on DU are calling for his resignation.

Yes, almost certainly.  He's weathered a primary challenge and won over 50% in the worst of the storm.

There's only two reasons that he could leave--either he gets expelled in a GOP-led vote (with many democrats joining in to simply get rid of him), or his district gets cut up in redistricting in order to both get rid of him and to add another Hispanic-majority seat based in the Bronx.

Remember that Carolyn Kilpatrick lost the primary without any solid wrongdoing and basically nothing but guilt by association over her spawn.

Rangel is a huge institution in his district, the average voter there wouldn't think too much about any of this and might not even know about.

Wait, Democratic Underground is still around?  I thought it faded away into absolute irrelevance already.

It'll be around forever. How long has Free Republic been around?

Not that I post there much anymore, it's rather dull. It's basically a giant echo chamber except for the crazies who aren't worth laughing at anymore. Besides I have Libertas here to get my share of hilariously dumb inanity and conspiracy theories.
