No.

Let him get two terms as Governor under his belt and run in 2016 (or 2020 if a Republican wins in 2012).

I'd (potentially) vote for him if Johnson and Paul were not to run, but I'd rather he not run.

I think he's been a great governor in NJ and would make a strong candidate, but his experience in office reminds me of Obama's experience and we saw how well that turned out. But if it was between Christie, Palin, Huck and Romney, I'd likely be a Christie supporter.

YES WE CAN!

My only hesitation is that his leadership is sorely needed in New Jersey and I'd hate to take his focus away from that.

I would rather see him win a second term before we discuss him as a national candidate.  Talking about him after just one year shows how awful the current crop of near certain losers are.

Focus on America > Focus on New Jersey

Talking about him after just one year shows how awful the current crop of near certain losers are.

Or that he's just that great.

So you're saying that Governor Christie should focus on solving America's problems more so than those in his own state? Please explain.

LONG ANSWER: Christie has the fire in the belly to make a run, and certainly has the guts to make the tough decisions he needs to make to get America back on the road again. I would give an enormous amount of cash to see him get elected President of the United States, but he's stated that there isn't a chance in hell of him running. I believe that, although I would dearly like to see him do the opposite.

SHORT ANSWER: Yes.

I'm saying he should run so he could help solve our problems in his own country. Contrary to what you're clearly implying, that doesn't mean he shouldn't focus on things in his own state now.

No. I'd support a 2016 run, however.

Ugh I wish Hoeven hadn't run for senate so that he could run for president and give Christie a chance to establish his creds more. I would like to see him run, but I think New Jersey needs him too much right now. So at the moment we are stuck with a field of Republicans only slightly better than 1996.

I like a lot of his positions and he seems to be taking a tough stand in some important ways, but I'm not entirely comfortable with him at this point. I really have no clue about what his foreign policy would be like, and his record as a DA is a little troubling to my concern for civil liberties and criminal justice protections.

If he wasn't from the northeast, Romney might have considered him as a VP running mate in 2012.

Actually it might be good for the Republicans to nominate an all Northeastern ticket in 2012, just like it was good for the Democrats to nominate an all Southern ticket in 1992.

True.  History repeats itself.  The all southern ticket of Clinton/Gore defeating an incumbent President.  The all northeast ticket of Romney/Christie defeating an incumbent President.

I like it.

But the point is that he hasn't even solved our problems yet.  How is he supposed to run a campaign on "I seem like I can handle it and did for hmmm...like a year"?  He needs some major accomplishments, some hurdles to overcome, a different New Jersey to champion as his.

He's been Governor for 11 months! Some mammals have gestation periods longer than that. The very fact he's even considered a potential presidential candidate in 2012 is a sad comment on a political culture that is all about "charisma" and "narratives" and "first black/female/Hispanic/fat guy that can win!!!" obsessions. Once he has a more extensive record and more time spent in office, I'll gladly consider voting for him.
