This is excellent. This is also being pushed by women's groups. It's a sign pornography is not liberating but objectifying, and morally abhorrent from a left wing approach or a right wing approach.

Do I really care much about the left wing justification for this? No. But the alliance of social conservatives and feminist-progressives has been doing a lot in Iceland- banning strip clubs earlier- @) so the means justifies the ends here.

It's not surprising that right-wingers would support legislation that tells women what they can and cannot do with their bodies and what sexual acts they can and cannot perform consentingly, but it's absolutely disgusting that progressives have been bamboozled into voting for this social authoritarianism.

Yes this is a proposal from a minister of the Left-green party. Hes been throwing out a bunch of crazy stuff as elections are coming up and the Left-greens are now only polling at 7%.

Even looking just a current states (ever?), plenty of Muslim states ban not just porn but also any female skin showing and booze and political expression as well. If enacted, this may make Iceland the worst non-ex-Soviet state in Europe, but it would be far from the worst country ever.

I'm glad porn production and sale are already banned in Iceland, but this seems a little excessive. The intention is, I think, admirable, though, and I can't really get worked up about this proposal except on principle.

The time honored purpose of pornography is to Substitute for a Real Girl.  One may become aroused by a Real Girl, or pornography, but now these poor Swedes will have to become aroused only by staring at the wall.  Or perhaps a dour, fully clothed photograph of a feminist wearing a dreadlock.
