I've given blood a few times.  I only do it for the cookies and kool-aid afterwards.

My blood type is A-positive.

Gay blood not allowed. Type O, I've never been sure if it's positive or negative.

A+

I only have once, and apparently my blod clots too quickly, because they had to use both arms and still couldn't fill up the bag.  I wouldn't be opposed to doing it again, but I'd prefer not having such a hassle.

#2.  A+.  I have a wonderful vein in my left arm that all the blood donation people squee about.  I used to donate regularly, but the blood drives on Michigan State's campus are extremely poorly advertised.

No, because I get dizzier than the average person gets.  I know most people get a little dizzy after giving blood, but whenever I do I am dizzy for the next week or two and it turns into a full case of vertigo.  It leaves me unable to drive and perform my daily tasks.  I haven't given blood since the end of my junior year of high school in May 2000.

Yeah, I used to give regularly.  MOstly for the free T-shirts.  I had a drawer full of Carter Blood Center shirts and another full of Stewart Blood Center shirts.  When I was in college, the Coors brewery used to host a local blood drive for Stewart.  It was sort of strange because they'd give you all the free domestic, watery, flavorless beer you could drink if you donated blood.  The strange part wasn't that a bunch of teenagers were drinking free domestic, watery, flavorless beer--after all, the drinking age was 18 in those days, and most college students are either poor or cheap--but that usually, in most blood drives, they always give you a card saying that you shouldn't drink alcohol, and that you should limit your smoking after you give blood.  But at the Coors blood drive the suds flowed freely.  So, yeah, I used to give often.  Between the ages of 18ish and 23ish, I probably donated blood 50 times or so.

Years later, when I was in grad school, I got into the "donating plasma" game.  A whole different game.  A whole different crowd.  Nasty crowd, that was.  Toothless and thin.  Gaunt, even.  And very stinky.  Donating plasma, for the uninitiated, isn't at all like donating whole blood.  First, you get paid for donating plasma.  Second, it takes a whole lot longer, like 45 minutes instead of 10 minutes.  And third, it's extremely painful.  Also, instead of seeing regular folks like you see at the common blood drives, you see meth moms and cokeheads and general riff-raff.  It's like, you see this ad in the newspaper one day.  "Come, donate plasma.  75 dollars for the first donation and 30 dollars for each donation thereafter."  What the hell, you think.  I'll do that.  Why not?  I'll be helping somebody and I'll get paid for it.  Yeah, I did that too.  Did it only once.  Never again.    (shudders)

I've also seen the sperm donation ads.  Never been quite hard-up enough to do that, though.

No, I have an EXTREME fear of needles and of the dentist. I get cold sweats and shake bad. And I don't know what my blood type is.

I'm not gay, and I've never had sex with a man, nor have I had any problems where my blood may be considered risky, however I REFUSE to give blood because they won't let men who have sex with men give blood. I have boycotted giving blood.

No. But I did have a couple of blood transfusions last year and also a plasma transfusion. Happy days. My memory of that time is a little fuzzy, but I think it was type A.

If blood is being taken by a skilled vampire the needle doesn't hurt, even when being taken from tricky areas like hands.

Well that's stupid. I'd like to have the choice to give blood, but even if I can't I don't want other lives to be put at risk due to a boycott in my name.

A) My boycott makes no difference
B) If more people did it anyways, they would be forced to change their policies.

I really don't see how my reasoning is worse than "ahh needles!"

Yes, but I kind of regret it, because the Red Cross won't leave me alone.  I haven't given blood in half a year and I shut my phone off the second I hear "Is this (my name mispronounced)?  I'm ____ with the Americ-"
