"When I make my announcement, I want to get some press on it. If I make it now, then I don't get any press."

-- Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-AZ), quoted by Roll Call, refusing to say whether he'll run for re-election in 2012.

I obviously hope he sticks around since he's my favorite Senator but also because, with him gone, the seat would be way more competitive than we need it to be.

Oh I doubt that, I don't see Arizona electing a Democrat to the senate with one in the White House.

He should retire and let some new blood run for the seat. I would love to see Jeff Flake run for senate if Kyl decides not to run.

Giffords will almost certainly run if the seat is open.  It would be a toss-up in an Obama re-election scenario.  Kyl himself wouldn't be in any danger unless he had a scandal or Obama did so well that he won AZ.

He is one my top 5 or 6 Senators, so I hope he runs again. He is getting up there in age though.

We need him to run for reelection. If GOP incumbents are able to survive, minus Ensign, we should be able to easily hold about every seat we have, minus Massachusetts. Then we can focus more resources on unseating incumbents.

Exactly.  If we assume that 2012 plays out as a 50-50 year, senate control could very well come down to one seat.
