I still oppose this measure; though primaries may be an interesting idea, in reality, Atlasian elections are such that running more candidates can't really hurt us.

My concern isn't about chances of our candidates. It's about we should not antagonize other parties at the start, because, in Atlasia, working togehter with other parties is a reality. And I don't think running almost same number of candidates as is the number of seats is good idea.

Motion Sad

1. The UDL shall run two candidates for December 2010 Senate elections.
2. These two candidates shall be determined through Instant Runoff Voting during a Party Primary.
3. Any candidate not taking part to the primary shall not receive any endorsement from the UDL. Any candidate taking part to the primary shall drop out of the race if they aren't among the two frontrunners.
4. The UDL Primary shall be held immediately after the passage of this motion. It shall last for 48 hours.

- My proposed changes in bold, if we're going to do this, way as well do it now.

I support this. But after we get established we should go to 3.

Again, this isn't Borda count. Very high preferences aren't necessarily better than mid-range preferences. Let's say, hypothetically, that there are four party candidates, and my top two preferenced candidates don't do very well at all and get quickly eliminated. In that case, my third and fourth preference become my first and second preference; there is no intrinsic difference between my vote and the vote of someone who preferenced those candidates first and second.

I think with our voting system it isn't a big problem to have many candidates. But 4 are maybe a little bit to much Wink

Important is only that we will give our candidates our high preference votes, then we can have so many candidates like we want

I like the idea of just endorsing two candidates. We should give the rest of our preferences to other parties. Officially that is. Btw are we votng on Antonio's motion right now?

It seems like it might be a good idea to elect party leadership before continuing on with other matters so that there is someone serving in an official capacity to conduct votes.

Official color:

Orange    8911
Red        7711
Fuchsia   22
Blue      22
Salmon    11
Purple     11
Gold       1

No determination having been made, the choice of official color shall be left to the Executive Council to decide at a later date. In the interim, the status quo shall continue.

Shall the party bylaws be amended to replace "five" in Article 6 with "seven"?

Yes: 12
No: 9

This proposal fails.

The idea of a primary is a rather interesting one, I have to admit. It'd make Presidential elections good fun. Tongue

Hey, just a random thought : where is it written that a party must have one colore and only one ? There seems to be a major division between our members, so I think the best thing would merely be to adopt two official colors : Red and Orange. I don't think 49% of the party deserves to be frustrated just because 51% has a different opinion, so let's make everybody happy. Wink

My platform is entirely and utterly serious. Here it is:

1. Near total inactivity. I don't especially care about fantasyland anymore, therefore am uniquely qualified to sit on what is presumably the governing body of one of its political parties.

2. Open corruption. I say we end the hypocrisy. I will be for sale and will openly admit to it. You will be able to buy me like an Italian politician.

3. Links to the Mafia. Well, you've all known about that for a while, right? I see it not as a drawback, but as a strength.

4. Brassnecked cheek and postmodernist irony.

5. Apples.

I would be fine with that, but we need one primary color for the Registrar General and the display of election results on the Wiki.
