It can't be both.

I've been interested seeing the wide variety of opinions expressed by the far-right on this subject.

While I don't think Assange should be summarily executed, I do hope that this situation educates many of my fellow Republicans that there is a chunk of the tea-party movement that doesn't really care about America's national security.

Here's to hoping that segment grows and pushes the neocon infiltrators out of the tea party once and for all. Cheesy

Of course it can be both. This is exactly the kind of issue that the Tea Party is not going to have 100% agreement over.

Indeed.  They're called neocons.

Why can't it? This is the Tea Party that we're talking about.

it's probably somewhere in between, but more negative than positive, just as for many Americans on the left or on the right.

What was just so damaging to the US revealed by Wikileaks again?  Just asking. I was quite "amused" that so many folks in the Arab world want the US to bomb Iran. Oh the tangled webs we weave. Who wants to make the case that these revelations were really damaging?  I have an open mind. Educate me. Thanks.

the first big leak several months ago was damaging because it may have compromised the anonymity of some ordinary Afghans helping the US against the Taliban and AlQaeda. the latest rounds is problematic for the US mainly because allies want to be able to work in confidentiality with the US, and if they believe they do not have this confidentiality, these governments are less likely to cooperate with us.

So far it seems to be more the latter than the former, though a few do seem to be trying to have it both ways.

While I don't think Assange should be summarily executed, I do hope that this situation educates many of my fellow Republicans that there is a chunk of the tea-party movement that doesn't really care about America's national security.

While a large segment of the Tea Party movement does seem to believe that America under Obama has become a Totalitarian Communist dictatorship, and probably puts the goal of getting Obama out of office ahead of national security, it's not like you see Tea Partiers rooting for North Korea or the Taliban.

Also, the unfriendly leaders the Tea Partiers are always accusing Obama of coddling are for the most part portrayed pretty negatively in the leaks, so they probably don't know how to react.

The individuals who are American citizens engaging in leaking should certainly be tried and executed under the Constitutional provision for treason:

Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
