Seriously, this state has two moderate Republican Senators, two Democratic congresspeople, a Republican Governor, and it switches back and forth between Democrats and Republicans in the state legislature, often splitting tickets during elections.

Also, Independents do very well in Maine.

So is Maine just a "moderate hero's" paradise?

It's a good example of one, but it has nothing on Nebraska, with Ben Nelson and Chuck Hagel. Are the Dems in Maine moderate too?

Hagel is no longer a Senator. And by 2013, Nebraska will be replaced by two conservative Republicans. On top of that, the state legislature is dominated by Republicans, and they hold all three Congressional seats. Wink But if we're going just of Senators, I think Nebraska could have made a strong case before 2009.

North Dakota is a good candidate, as it is the state with the highest percentage of moderates, not to mention who they elect.

I don't know if the state itself could be called "moderate hero", though it is definitely a great place to be a moderate hero.

Same here. Libertas ruined it for everyone. Tongue

Tennessee seems to produce lots of moderate heroes.

Yes, Maine has taken Nebraska's spot (as of 2009). Wormy does have a point, however, when he cites Tennessee.
