Elzabeth Edwards's cancer has spread to liver

– Mon Dec 6, 5:21 pm ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Elizabeth Edwards's cancer has spread to her liver and doctors have advised against further treatment, People magazine reported on Monday.

The estranged wife of two-time U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards is now resting at home with her family after being hospitalized briefly last week. The celebrity magazine reported doctors as saying that the breast cancer first diagnosed in 2004 "had metastasized to the liver."

"Elizabeth has been advised by her doctors that further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive. She is resting at home with family and friends," the Edwards family said in a statement to People magazine.

Edwards, 61, said in a Facebook posting on Monday; "I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces, my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope."

"These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that," the posting said.

Edwards's breast cancer spread to her bones in 2007. She said in an interview in June 2010, that it had also then reached her legs, spine and skull.

Elizabeth Edwards and her Democratic politician husband John announced in January that they had separated after 32 years of marriage. The split followed a scandal in which the former U.S. Senator had an affair and fathered a baby with a campaign aid during his bid for the 2008 presidential nomination.

Elizabeth Edwards has since written two best-selling books "Resilience" and "Saving Graces" about her long battle with cancer and the scandal surrounding her husband.

Yea that is pretty bad. My aunt died litteraly days after it was discovered to have spread to her liver after following the same general progression that Mrs. Edward's has.

I do too.  This is a sad, but not unexpected turn of events.

I just hope her last days are as pain-free as possible and when she does go, she goes in peace.

I wonder whether this was leaked by someone close to the scumball prick because he's going to be indicted soon, according to some reports.  Elizabeth Edwards seems to have been trying to stay out of the spotlight recently, and probably would want to die in peace without a media circus.

on a side note:

I noticed what seemed to be an odd dance around mentioning God in the statement above in red, so I googled "Elizabeth Edwards Jesus" and interestingly she is getting some bad comments on the internet for not mentioning a faith in Christ.  In fact, someone noted her past comment of:

"I have, I think, somewhat of an odd version of God. I do not have an intervening God. I don’t think I can pray to him — or her — to cure me of cancer. "

Her family issued a statement to People magazine about it and she posted to FB about her illness.

Your response to this... imagining an assault on Edwards' privacy, and imagining a leak, just so you can be outraged and self-righteous... is pretty ugly. The woman is dying, let's take that as it is and not use it as an excuse to vent, even against people who otherwise deserve condemnation.

And who in Elizabeth Edwards' family leaked this info, exactly?

Your lack of skepticism about John Edwards is amusing.  John Edwards is going to be indicted soon.  Various aides have been seen entering a North Carolina courthouse where a grand jury is investigating payoffs to his mistress.  That's a fact - and one that came out last week, before this announcement.

The fact that there are people actively criticizing terminal patients for potentially not sharing their view of God and religious conviction, is very sad indeed.

None of which has anything to do with you making up charges and calling a press release a "leak", in defiance of the facts, just so you could let everyone know how outraged and furious you are with those vile, digusting people. It's tiresome. We all know about John Edwards. No one's defending him. This story isn't about him, even if it's what you want to talk about it.

Please stop distorting what I said.  I NEVER called Elizabeth Edwards a vile, disgusting person - may she rest in peace.  And I never said I was outraged or furious with anyone - especially Elizabeth Edwards.  I asked an open-ended question in response to someone else's comment.
