True, and it had a good streak from 1916-1928.  But yucky Mitt Romney is just so yucky - plus these primary voters appear to have amnesia over the period 2003-2007.

At least he's being destroyed among young voters, so there may be hope yet.

You know that liberals are afraid of him when they start using name calling. How about referring to Huckabee as possum eater and Palin as mentally challenged then?

So basically Palin and Huck put up the same numbers in MA that Romney is putting up in states such as Missouri, Montana, and North Carolina.  The three states that I just cited are a lot closer, to put it mildly, to the mean Republican voter than Massachusetts Republicans.

Redcommander,

If you put aside your partisanship, you'll see that liberals are exactly right to making fun of Mitt Romney.

I'm not being partisan he is the candidate liberals are afraid of, just like in 2008. And using words like "Giant Douche" to describe him is a pretty low blow considering Republicans on this forum don't use that kind of vulgarity in referring to the President, Hillary, Pelosi, Reid, Hoyer, and whoever else in the Democratic Party is in the news.

If I were a liberal, I would be afraid of (in order of fear generated):

Marco Rubio
Chris Christie
Scott Brown
Bobby Jindal
John Thune
Mitch Daniels

I would not be afraid of the Republican version of John Kerry.

That's the only one that comes close to scaring me, with honourable mentions for those in italics.

Considering how low the national party has sunk, he seems pretty good out of the potential candidates.

Women sure don't like Gingrich. Have we seen that reflected in other polls?

Actually, yes.  Almost every poll shows a notable gender split on Gingrich, with him being much stronger among men than women.

Actually, I've looked at three other states, and I see it in NC, but not in MO and MT.

Well, OK, I should have been more precise.  Gingrich does better with men than with women in nearly every primary poll, but the difference is sometimes small.  Even in MO and MT, he does a bit better with men, but only by a couple of points.  Look for example at these six states:

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_FLMEMNTXWVWI_1111.pdf

He does better with men than women in every state, but in a couple of cases, it's only by one point.  It's prevalent enough that it's not likely to be a coincidence.

Hm.  Wonder if that gender split means I'm wrong about people not knowing about newt's issues.  Also couldn't help wonder if the sad news about Elizabeth Edwards's passing affects his decision making since his behavior is comparable to that of John Edwards whose selfishness is brought back into the news.

Separately, I assume rivals will try to spin NH as a Romney favorite son effect a la Kerry and Tsongas so as to drag on his mo' from a win there.  Some spec. they'll yield it to him.

If Romney wins NH, then that's obviously how they'll try to spin it.  That doesn't mean that no one else is going to try to contest it though, as some have suggested.  I basically agree with this post on that:

http://frontloading.blogspot.com/2010/11/it-will-not-happen.html

The other candidates are not just going to give Romney a free pass in NH.  I mean, he was up by like 20 points there at one point in the fall of 2007, and still ended up losing it.  You really think the other candidates are all going to conclude that they can't win in NH, or even beat expectations, and just hand Romney a free victory?

Yes, if Romeny performs below expectations- the second place finisher can claim a victory.

Joe,

Thoughtful republicans won't care about how a candidate does in a state like New Hampshire.  Romney's problems once again aren't in the South or deep-red states.  His problems are in states that aren't deep blue states or Northeastern states.  He's losing in somewhat blue states.
