The Eastern Time Zone is only 577 hours from 2011 (at 11:00 pm).

What are your plans to ring in the New Year?

I am going to do the same thing I did to ring in 2010, and that is go to a New Year's Eve party at church from 6:00 pm - 1:00 am.  The church is underground, and there is no cable, so we're going to have use the old converter boxes and try to find Dick Clark starting at 9:00.

BUMP

Due to the terminal condition of my friend, we have cancelled the New Year's Eve party at church out of respect.  So, I will be ringing in 2011 with Dick Clark, Ryan Seacrest, and Fergie on ABC HD.

my plane to JFK, which should have left two hours ago, was canceled today, leaving me stuck in goldmining country in California...
I suppose Greyhound, Amtrack and renting a car are out of the question?

He said he's going from California to New York.  That would be one long bus ride or one long train ride.  I'd rather wait at the airport and let someone do the driving for me.

There are a couple of Amtrak services arriving in NYC at 6:30ish on January 3, but not many tickets remaining. Sou8nds like an adventure to me.

Alternatively, get the train to Denver or another hub and fly from there.

Sounds like too much of a hassle either way you go.

I'm about to go to my final event for 2010, Wednesday Evening Bible Study at church.  I'll leave here in a couple hours around 5:45 and will be home by 7:45.  I should be home for the final 52 hours of 2010 after that.

Oklahoma has 49 hours until 2011.  As for me, I have the next 72 hours planned right down to the minute.  I plan to go to bed really late, about 4:15 am Thursday and get up around 9:00 am.  Then, I will watch the quadruple header of College Football from 11:00 am - 12:30 am Friday.  After I wake up tomorrow morning, I don't plan to sleep again until 2011.  I plan to pull 40 straight hours of being awake.  I've got a lot of stuff I plan to do the entire 24 hours of New Year's Eve.  I will watch College Football from 11:00 am - 9:00 pm Friday before I switch to Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2011 on ABC.  I'll stick with ABC until 11:58 pm and then switch to our NBC affiliate and watch the ball rise in Oklahoma City.  I'll finally crash around 1:00 am Saturday.

My calendar changing escapade will finally be finished by 9:00 pm Thursday night.

Anybody plan to watch the Tournament of Roses Parade? It comes on from 10:00-12:00 Central on NBC and ABC.  CBS is not showing it at all this year.

30 minutes until 2011 is born and starts spreading around the world.

That will be 5:00 am Eastern, 4:00 am Central.

I had a really nice time at my New Year's Eve party.  I got there a little before 7:00 and visited with them for a few minutes while they took down their Christmas Tree as a family and then more family came over and we had 7 kids screaming and yelling in the house while 4 of us tried to play Monopoly.  I got blown away at Monopoly, something that rarely happens, but it was a fun time.  Then, it was time to settle down and watch Dick Clark starting at 9:00 pm, the news at 10:00 pm, and Dick Clark from 10:30-11:58 pm before the local news came back on with coverage of our ball rising into the new year.  There was champagne served in the house and I was wanting to try some, but since I had to drive back home, I just had a few glasses of non-alcoholic sparkling grape juice and sparkling apple juice, in wine glasses.  I left there at 12:05 and got home about 12:25 and was in bed before 1:00 am.
