How exactly would we be able to vet...and what?

Decide whether to allow candidates to participate in our primaries. Most of the time it would go through on the nod, I think.

Personally, I don't have an issue with there being certain conditions that must be met to run under the UDL banner... but based on length of tine registered etc etc - I would have some concerns with the council actually going any further than those kinds of requirements.

I don't see what's difficult about holding an open, easy primary asap.

I think we just need to present a motion and put it on votes. Wink

I wanted, you know, other UDL EC members to comment on this before we started throwing motions around.

If they haven't made their feelings known, if one of you would be kind enough to put a motion up for the EC to determine a system for endorsement through an open at-large vote.

Let's have two votes at one.

The one to determine UDL official candidate.

The second to determine official preferences for non-UDL tickets.

That's fine with me.

Alright, unless any of the Exec Council have concerns, I take it the consensus is that we have a public vote for both the presidential endorsement of the UDL, as well as a vote for the formal preferences for other tickets.

I suggest we schedule this for this coming weekend January 15 and 16.

One suggestion: for the UDL endorsement portion, we allow voters to simply say "I stand by my Privately Messaged vote."  Given the hostile atmosphere during the campaign, this will allow voters to choose whether or not they wish to publicly state their vote.  Hopefully this will keep the personal recriminations down to a minimum.

Personally, I like the secret ballot system...

I don't think however, that we can sustain having both public and private votes...

However, I ask for the Council's input on that.

I agree. Last thing we really need at the moment is more bad atmosphere.

So, we can allow people to choose between casting a new public vote or simply sticking with PM vote.

I don't understand why some people should want to hide their vote. The fact ther were bitter comments at some point of the race doesn't mean people should fear to publicly state their preference.

Straight public ballot for me.

I don't either, but we should respect that.

Again, public vote. I don't think there's that much bad blood between party members, and if there is, then well, we have serious issues to work out rather than primary technicalities.

So, we have 2 council members in favour of a public vote, with one happy to keep allow their original private vote to stand.

I would prefer a public vote, but with the option to ballot privately.

Sewer can you please clarify whether or not you'd accept people being able to choose 'original private ballot to stand' as an option.
