Dan Quayle's career ended effectively on January 20, 1993, when he left the Vice Presidency. He was just 46 year old, which is rather unusual age for those, who ends their careers.

I can't escape an impression that Vice Presidential selection actually harmed Quayle's political career.

What if we weren't selected in 1988 as Bush running-mate?

Interesting. He'd probably become a dominant figure in Indianan politics, and Evan Bayh might not have become Senator, unless it was in the other class, or Quayle was no longer Senator. I can see Quayle as a contender for the 1996, 2000, and maybe 2008 Republican nomninations.

I like the role he has in Dallasfan's Gerald Ford TL where he's nominated in 1996 in a battle between him, Governor Pete Wilson, and Senator Ross Perot. Sadly, however, Clinton becomes President in 1996.

He runs for President in 2000 and loses the nomination to Bush. He's likely still in the Senate today.

Most likely, this.

Also, why was Quayle considered to be so inexperienced? He had more experience than Barack Obama did in 2008.

1. Pure contrast to both his both running-mate (Bush Sr.) and his opponent (Lloyd Bentsen)
2. Frequent, idiotic gaffes
