Of the candidates who had tried to get the Democratic nomination, were they any or any combinations which could have beaten Ike in '56?
I read Joe Kennedy wanted '56 to be LBJ/JFK--The opposite of 1960. I personally think that might have had a chance.

Realistically, Only maybe FDR would've been able to beat Ike in that era...

I doubt even that.  FDR was declining in terms of his popular vote even in 1944.

Lincoln might have had a problem in 1952 and I'd doubt that he could have defeated Democratic nominee Eisenhower.
