I'm surprised that Bell even got elected and that he didn't switch parties earlier. Hall County is 81% white and voted 74% for McCain in 2008.

There is one >90% Obama heavily black* precinct. Meaning Bell has no chance whenever he's up for reelection again assuming he even runs.

*It's really only about 60% black, but most of the rest is Hispanics who don't vote.

Anyone want to take a bet that Artur Davis will be the next to follow them?

He doesn't have anything to gain, so no. Party switchers make lousy lobbyists.

Actually after playing with the redistricting app a bit I see the most black you can get a Hall County Commissioner district (there appears to be 4) is about 18%. Bell says in the article “My district is pretty Republican as it is”, so he probably was already a conservative Blue Dog anyway.

So yeah a county commission for a really conservative county and a guy not in office just switched parties. Clearly a sign of a complete disaster for Obama and the destruction of the Democratic Party.

I suspect that Davis will become one of those media whores just raving about how their party has moved so far to the left and is so extremist, like Zell Miller used to be (the media basically quit paying attention to him after the 2006 election.) or like Joe Lieberman would no doubt be if he had been defeated by Lamont.

You know as much as I'd hate to, I'll give Lieberman credit for one thing: He is one of the strongest advocates in the Senate for repealing DADT. I bet if he lost he would probably be media-whoring even against that and probably would have been endorsing people like Sharron Angle. Of course I'd rather have him out of office since he'd be far less damaging as an ex-Senator than now.

Actually, it is a sign of a realignment when members of a traditional core group switch parties.  Granted, it is just a small sign, but it is one.

A Luzerne County Commissioner switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party.

This may be a sign of the deluge.

Sarah Palin will go down in history as the woman who destroyed her own party.
