In 1988 and 1984, I was a Republican and voted Republican.  Before 1984, I was ineligible to vote.  So I am naming those Democrats who I WOULD HAVE supported...if I knew then what I know now.

2008:   Dodd
2004:   Kerry
2000:   Bradley
1996:   Clinton
1992:   Tsongas
1988:   Simon
1984:   Glenn
1980:   Proxmire, early.  But Carter, eventually.
1976:   Barbara Jordan
1972:   Gene McCarthy
1968:   Bobby Kennedy, first.  Then Gene McCarthy

I'll start with 1972 (and again, these people are who I genuinely support--I don't vote tactically):

1972: Scoop Jackson
1976: Scoop Jackson
1980: NOTA
1984: John Glenn
1988: Joe Biden
1992: NOTA
1996: NOTA
2000: NOTA
2004: NOTA
2008: Joe Biden

1948 Truman.
1952 Truman! Well, Stevenson, I suppose.
1956 Stevenson, I guess.
1960 Kennedy.
1964 Uh, Johnson.
1968 Eugene McCarthy.
1972 George McGovern.
1976 Jerry Brown.
1980 Jimmy Carter.
1984 Gary Hart.
1988 Mike Dukakis.
1992 Jerry Brown, the most interesting candidate.
1996 I wouldn't vote.
2000 Al Gore.
2004 Gephardt? Not a great field.
2008 Barack Obama. Would probably consider anyone but Clinton.
2012 Barack Obama.

EDIT: Don't really know why we're starting with 1968. I mean, I know the primary system wasn't hugely important prior to the '60s, but still. I've added a few.
