Something about disarmament weakening national defense, I suppose.

Which is nonsense of couse, because this treaty contains nothing that Nixon or Reagan wouldn't have supported as well. But then again, the tea party probably would have tried to primary Reagan back in the days. Tongue

Concern that it would inhibit US missile defence (based on the preamble rather than anything in the treaty itself), worries about the verification arrangements and something about not limiting bombers. Lack of mention of tactical nukes (which is a bit stupid in a strategic arms treaty and has never been covered before). The US would have to make cuts while the Russians don't (as they're already below). Some other technical stuff.

That and Obama supports it.

So much for McConnell and Kyl's whining.
And Graham's threats that repealing DADT would kill the treaty.

I don't understand all the fuss. A renewal of a treaty signed by a Republican president. A treaty endorsed by every living Republican secretary of State. This is as big a no-brainier as they come.

The following Republicans have indicated they will vote to ratify:
Lugar
Snowe
Collins
Brown
Gregg
Voinovich
Issakson
Alexandar
Bennett
Corker

And you can bet your mortgage that Kirk and a few others will jump on the bandwagon seeing as their vote won't count for anything.

Good. That's probably the only thing Brown has done as senator (so far) that I support.

I would imagine you agree with him about 75% of the time or so, if you're honest with yourself.

Scott Brown once in awhile supports the things that get attention on the news. It's symbolic and grabs attention since people will notice certain issues more than others. That's "moderation" in American politics. The Maine sisters do the same thing, to the point of which they basically have no ideology whatsoever.

Well I'll be damned, Kirk voted no.

Responsible thing to do.

that was on the vote to proceed with debate. not surprising that he would vote no on that since he said before that the newly elected senators should have a say on it.

So when exactly have the Maine sisters voted against each other? It doesn't ever seem like they do.

It's happened a few times, but I can't honestly remember on what. I don't understand it either, though, since they seem identical.
