Considering Reagan's margin of victory in '84, his approval rating couldn't have been too bad.

When looking at Reagan's approval ratings you have to keep in mind that the MSM reigned supreme at that time, and that Reagan was seen through the prism that the MSM  presented, which was relentlessly negative.

That looks about right, but Reagan would crack 70 percent in Wyoming.

CA and WI would be toss up states.  I see CA go with the home town boy in the end.

I don't know if he would.   He barely cracked 70% in '84, and Clinton was did fairly well there (for a Demcorat) in both of his elections.

True, but Wyoming was less Republican then. In a Reaganesque victory today, the GOP would likely poll 74 percent at least.

Clinton did so well because of a strong vote for Perot both times, drawing mainly from Republicans.

Keep in mind most of Clinton's presidency, and thus the media coverage of it, was Republican congressional allegations, many of which turned out to be completly false. It can be said that neither recieved appropriate press coverage.

He wouldn't win Massachusettes in the post-1980s political landscape, even less so in the post-2000 landscapp.

Uh, no.

Ronald Reagan's average job approval rating while in office between 1981 and 1989 was 53 percent, but looking back, 73 percent of Americans say they approve of how he handled his term in office.

Clinton averaged a 55 percent job approval rating during both terms in office between 1993 and 2001, but those surveyed today give him a 51 percent approval rating.

As time goes by, the person becomes less polarizing as he becomes less associated with contemporary partisanship and more with history.

Putting him in a contemporary electoral setting would wipe that away however.

Keep in mind the poll was taken just a year and a half after Clinton left office (so he would be more of a polarizing figure than Reagn would be 13 years after.  Also The same poll has Carter @ 60%, so  what the hell is your point??  Reagan took a beating after the Iran-Contra scandal hit.  A Pre Iran-Contra would beat a Pre Monica, but a Post Iran Contra would lose to a post Monica

Pre Iran-Contra  Reagan   Post Iran-COntra  Clinton

No body cares about Iran-Contra.  It was the least significant scandal in history and not for the lack of Democrats trying to play it up into an issue.

It was a MAJOR MAJOR SCANDAL.  Part of his adminstration served JAIL-TIME over it.  More would have if Bush 1 didn't pardon a bunch of them in 92.  Hell he broke the law to sell arms to our enemy Iran.  That some pretty major stuff.  Reagan's approval dropped ifrom around 60 tho the 40's when the scandal broke out in 86

Then you're completely misinformed.

That shows the bias of the media more than anything else. "Iran-contra" disappeared from mention in the media a lot faster than "Monica".
