I find it sensible to posit that Iowa is 'economically conservative'-leaning overall, but unbelievable that it's the fourth-most so of all states.

The chart seems to indicate that 'social issues' have at least in the past two presidential elections been better correlated to how a state votes than 'economic issues', since with the exception of a weird tangle around Arizona and New Mexico the dividing line between Obama states and Romney/McCain states is pretty much just a straight horizontal line, tilting slightly up and to the left in 2008 but only slightly.
