I´ve created these sorted charts with official January 1, 2010 population figures of all EU countries and 2009 numbers for births, deaths, natural increase and population growth and  their numbers relative to the population (rate per 1000 population).

I´ve used official statistical websites from all countries and EUROSTAT numbers.

Have fun !

Austria already has some up to date numbers for 2010:

There will be natural population growth again this year with about 3000 more births than deaths (this is based on monthly data from January to October).

Overall population growth will be about 35.000, which would be about 0.4%

I´ve also found out that Lithuania will have a population loss of about 90.000 this year, which would be roughly a 3% (!!!) population loss. Many people are emigrating because of the bad economy there.

There is also a exodus out of Ireland, where natural increase is relatively high (45.000), but about 30.000 more people have emigrated than immigrated in the past year.

'Tis not a particularly new phenomenon. Lithuania, IIRC, has been in continuous population decline since its most recent independence.

So, a return to business as usual for Ireland.

Yeah, that`s true, but minus 3% in a single year I think sets a new record for any country in Europe in modern times.

Sweden also has some up-to-date figures:

The population on Jan. 1, 2011 will be about 9.417.000, which is up by 76.000 (+0.8%).

There will be 116.000 births (a record high) and 90.000 deaths.

Another fact of stunning growth:

Belgium grew by 134.000 people in the first 10 months of 2010.

The population stood at 10.973.516 on November 1 and could break 11 Mio. by Jan. 1 if trends hold.

If anyone is wondering how Switzerland and Norway are doing:

Switzerland will have 81.000 births this year, 62.000 deaths and net immigration of about 60.000 for a total population growth of about 80.000 (which is about 1% growth).

The Jan. 1, 2011 population will be about 7.866.000

Norway will have 62.000 births this year, 41.000 deaths and net immigration of about 45.000, for a total population growth of about 66.000 (which is about 1.4% growth).

The Jan. 1, 2011 population will be about 4.924.000
