I have noticed that a tipping point in a county usually says a lot about it. Here are the common tipping points and what it usually means

Haven't voted for a Democrat since 1996 - usually a rural county

Hasn't voted for a republican since 1988 - most likely urban or suburban county where people became ticked off about fundies hijacking GOP

Hasn't voted for a Democrat since 1976 - southern rural county

Hasn't voted for a Democrat since 1964 - usually in the plains states or mountain states. An area that has always been republican and only voted Dem in 1964 because they didn't like Goldwater. Usually hadn't voted for a democrat since 1936 before then

Hasn't voted for a Republican since 1956 - usually a hotbed of latte liberalism or academic liberalism.

Hasn't voted for a democrat since 1948 - usually in the Southwest (OK, TX, NM, AZ), that was strongly democrat until 1952

Hasn't voted for a democrat since 1936 - usually in the rural midwest. Good chance it is in western nebraska as many of those counties last voted dem in 1936. Orange County also last voted democrat in 1936, but most people there have midwestern ancestry.

Did they ever not vote GOP between 1860 and 1932?

You can find them here for free if you have loads of patience. You can also find them on this site as well if you buy a full membership.

philadelphia in my opinion is a microcosm of the black vote. Was republican from the time of the civil war all the way to the depression. Like blacks, they still voted for Hoover in 1932, but voted democrat ever since. Was in the lean dem column until around 1964 when blacks began voting in blocks. This is no coincidence as Philadelphia has always had a large black population.
