There was a bit of a deal made about McCain with this in 2008. But who was the last one before him? Checking the records, it might've been FDR somewhat oddly. He did lose his home county all four times.

Adlai Stevenson is another possibility too, though I'm not sure where exactly he was from and if we even still have records from back then. But he did lose Cook County in 1956.

And before anyone says it, no it wasn't McGovern. He won his home county by double digits.

OK upon looking it up it it was most likely Stevenson. He lived in Jo Daviess County, which he barely broke 30% in in 1956 and failed in 1952. But we can't say for sure that meant he lost his specific voting precinct granted.

I thought Stevenson lived in Liberty on a farm in Lake County.
