I'm guessing Reagan wins because of his charisma and how galvinized the Conservatives are after the Nixon/Ford era. However, Reagan fails to turn the country around and in 1980 someone like Mo Udall, Ted Kennedy, or Jerry Brown is able to win the Democratic nomination and usher in a second Liberal Revolution.

If Reagan wins, it'd be interesting to see the cabinet positions. My idea would be:
State: George Shultz
Defense: Barry Goldwater
Ambassador to the United Nations: William F Buckley
Attorney General: James L Buckley

Pretty interesting shifts - 1978 in particular, midterms wise. 51-48 is pretty interesting given how that era actually turned out for the Senate.

I'm not sure Ronald Reagan would have won in 1976 but that's an interesting thought nonetheless. Good work.

Republicans probably would've been better off if Reagan didn't win, because then Carter would fail, and Reagan or another Republican would be back in 1980. I can actually see Reagan winning the nomination a second time if he lost in 1976.

Will Jerry Brown and Scoop Jackson enter the fray in 1980? Two of my more preferred Democrats...

If a Democrat has to win, let it be Scoop. Then, at least America will survive.

It's kind of funny having two Presidents go at it, repeating the same conflict from only four years ago. It's kind of like Roosevelt vs. Taft except Ford doesn't have the personal popularity or legacy that Roosevelt had.

Coupl'a questions...
-Why wasn't Kennedy's victory more definitive? I was looking for one of those mega-slides like the 1980 map was like in RL.
-Who's gonna be in Kennedy's cabinet? Might we get some guest appearances from Sargent Shriver? Will any of the younger politically inclined Kennedys make appearances?
-What happened in the 1980 NY Senate races? In RL, Javits (R) got primaried by the more Conservative D'Amoto. Javits ran as the candidate of the NY liberal party, and got 11%. Did Javits win re-nomination, or get a better percentage than in RL thanks to the unpopularity of the more Cosnervative wing? Also, in 1978 in Massachusetts, what was the result? Did Tsongas beat Brooke or did Brooke being a liberal save him in this version?

How'd the 1982 California Senate care go? In real life, the Republican nomination had a lot of famous faces in it:
-daughter of President Ronald Reagan Maureen Reagan
-former Congressman and 1972 American Independent candidate John SWchmitz
-son of Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater and Congressman Barry Goldwater Jr.
-1972 candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination and Congressman Pete McCloskey
-San Diego Mayor and eventual winner Pete Wilson
-future candidate for President and Congressman Bob Dornan.

I'm wondering who out of this crowd won the nomination? And, following that, who won? Jerry Brown or the Republican nominee? I can see Maureen Reagan getting a potential boost, but then again she didn't win in real life and her dad wasn't just former President, but President. I've always had a soft spot for getting a second Goldwater into the Senate, though a Senator Schmitz would definitely be interesting.

Did Bush serve in any position in Reagan's cabinet? He after all was in Ford's, his last position being Director of Central Intelligence. Does he stay on there, move somewhere else (maybe National Security Adviser) or leave the cabinet altogether?

Are there any other leading candidates besides Goldwater Jr. and Bush? Also, now, three years in, how is Reagan perceived? Are there any "miss me?" signs like George W Bush supporters have put up?

Go Goldwater! I wouldn't mind Dole, but a Goldwater would be so much more badass.

No need to thank me. I enjoy making these things.

Green-Senator Barry Goldwater Jr. of California
Blue-Former Secretary of State George HW Bush of Texas

Nice running-mate! BTW, how are pre-election polls looking?

1) I noticed Reagan doesn't win with Ohio either in 1976.

2) Will we see Goldwater's cabinet, or at least the main people (Treasury, State, Defense, AG)?

This is pretty much the outcome I was expecting: Repeal of gun control, but failure to repeal healthcare.
