Option 1 for me.

There are several moderate Democratic Senators--Bayh, both Nelsons, Landrieu, Lincoln, Pryor, Salazar, Reid, Byrd...

while almost all non-Northeastern Republicans are solidly conservative.

My option isn't up there, but the Dems are more moderate. Republicans are reformers, whereas the entire Democratic platform is just "we love FDR!"

The Democrats are the reactionary party.

Democrats, but I'm not sure if I'm a liberal or moderate Republican...

Well, considering you're not a Republican...

Well, I suppose I don't know if I'm a liberal or moderate Republican, too. Wink

Do the Democrats have an equivalent of Pat Robertson that is accepted in the party?

There are extremists in both parties.  There are moderates in both parties.

Since the Republicans control all 3 branches of government right now their extremist side is more visible right now.  The Democrats are swinging more to the center (despite what the Republicans are claiming).
