Tmthforu94/Dallasfan65 Administration: Public Office

I would like to dedicate the following speech to everyone in this game who has helped me get to where I am today. To my friends on all sides of the aisle, thank you for being there for me, politically, mentally, and even emotionally. I owe my Atlasian life to you.
Today, I am officially launching my campaign to become the next President of Atlasia.
I am running for this office because I am tired of standing by while our federal government continues to be less productive. I am positive that we can have a stronger, safer, and better future for Atlasia, but not without thoughtful, deliberate, and substantial change. This decision wasn’t made lightly, and it isn’t rushed. When thinking of the ideal President, I think of someone who is actively engaged in the game and committed to improving Atlasia as a whole. I think of someone who is ready to work with all parties and all sides of the political spectrum to improve this game, and this nation. I believe I would bring both of those qualities to the White House, and many more.
In recent terms, we have had inactive or divisive Presidents, some bitterly partisan. In recent months, Atlasians have sought leadership in the executive branch which has been lacking. We are witnessing a lack of concentration on the issues, and people are more focused on making friends with everyone than they are pushing for real reform in our government. Deserving Atlasians are losing in races to members who have uttered little substance. We see elected officials, as well as private citizens, engaging in behavior more appropriate for a elementary classroom than a hall of ideas.
It’s time for leadership that will be the beginning of a renewal and revival in the game.
Two main problems stick out in this game for me, and the first of those is our economy. The Game Moderator continues to give us troubling information, with an unstable stock market and high national unemployment number. On top of that, a national crisis has emerged, as China is considering a move to considerably reduce, or even eliminate, further lending to finance our national debt. If such a thing were to happen, our current recession would plunge into a depression. Very little has been done, however, by our federal government on such an important issue, with only our SoEA taking any action. One of my first priorities as President would be coming to a peaceful solution with the Chinese government, one that will prevent us from going into a depression. Secondly, I would urge the Senate to
reduce the size of government
, as even our center-left GM has indicated government is just too big. I will also be outlining more economic proposals throughout this campaign.
Our second problem is activity in the game. Back in `09, this game was at its peak. However, in the recent months, the game has turned stagnant. Our Senate is being held together by 1 member, with only a couple other Senators making a solid effort. Some would argue that several of our regional governments are more active than the federal government.
A newbie-friendly game is what I envision in Atlasia’s future
, unlike the current, where big requirements must be met and you are faced with public scrutiny. In the coming days, I will go more in-depth on my plan to bring activity and competition back into this game.
I joined this game nearly 2 years ago in January of 2009. By July, after briefly serving as a member of the Mideast Assembly, I was graciously appointed to the Senate by Governor Inks. In every post I made in the Senate, I had the best interests of the Mideast region in mind, and truly fought for the region in the Senate.
I was a bi-partisan voice in a partisan chamber
, and was never a rubber stamp for either side. That strategy apparently paid off, as I was reelected twice with over 60% of the vote. As my 3rd term began winding down, I decided to seek the Governor’s mansion, and am still serving in that position today. I have fought for my region, specifically in the stimulus bill. And while legislation has been passed that is more conservative than I would have liked, I have been an active member of our government, and have fought for compromise and moderation every step of the way.
I will take these same, common-sense principles with me to the White House.
I look forward to an exciting election cycle. Hopefully I will be able to convince to a majority of Atlasians that I am the best person to lead this nation into the future. For years, RL, not Atlas time, this game has been dominated by one side, and many are getting bored. Hopefully we can break both trends in this election, if not just one. T
o all Atlasians who want a true bi-partisan government where all voices are heard, I ask for your vote and support.
It's time we start investing in our future, instead of looking at the past.
Thank you all, and Dave Bless!

I do have a VP in mind, but I will be taking a few days to get everything set in place before making a public announcement.
But don't worry, it'll come.
My sign resembles Ben because shortly after his announcement, he came to me asking me to make a sign from him. They look similar because I used the same program to make his that I did for mine. As much as I like and respect Ben, we will not be running with each other.

I wish you the best of luck in the race Tmth! *hughughug* (h/t ILV)
Just one nit-picky comment on something in your speech:
Quote from: Governor Tmthforu94 on January 01, 2011, 11:39:12 pm

We are witnessing a lack of concentration on the issues, and people are more focused on making friends with everyone than they are pushing for real reform in our government.
Whether my administration is the only exception to this (and I'm not sure that it is), it sure blows most of that out of the water. My administration was remarkable for its activity, its bi-(tri-?)partisanship and its slew of real and substantive reforms. And I joined Marokai's bid for the presidency because I believe he can make that activity infectious, spreading it throughout the reaches of the game, while sustaining and building on those earlier reforms.
That is all I can say until you begin to unveil your policy proposals. Though I will probably end up in a debate with your and Ben's respective picks for vice president, I am sure we will all end up in some fun back-and-forth on policy in each others' threads. I very much look forward to the campaign.

Please remember to have your VP declare he is running.
Ideally, you should post the entire ticket that is running and both members should certify they are indeed running on said ticket. Since "tickets" are elected and not people, you could technically run a multitude of combos (expanded in ben's thread if you are curious)

@Purple State: Your administration was an exception in regards to activity. You guys both invested a lot of valuable time into the game with wiki editing as well as the constitutional convention. I wish more had been done by your administration to address our struggling economy, as well as some effort to lower the size of government. If I am privelaged to become Atlasia's next President, not only will I be an extremely active President (my strong activity record as Governor speaks for itself), but a top priority of my administration will be to actually play the game. We focus so much on improving the game that sometimes we forget to actually play the game. Hopefully once we really play the game, more people can get involved, and BAM! Activity and economy can both be solved in one step.
I also look forward to a collaboration of ideas going into this campaign. We have three great candidates in this race, so far.
@Teddy: As I said earlier, a VP announcement will be coming in the next few days. I'm sure this person will think to post in the Candidate Declaration thread, but if they don't, I'll put on some pressure.
@Andrew: I think y'all could handle me, though if the Senate stays this dull, I may have to try and to things Yankee-style.
And thanks!

Well that's why Marokai is at the top of the ticket this time and not me.
I have clearly proven to be more interested in improving the game, but Marokai has always been more in favor of policy and "playing the game" (hogwash, I say, but he insists
).

What exactly do you mean by "lowering the size of government?" Are you talking about structural changes like reducing the number of senate seats or something more ideological?

I have no intentions of reducing the number of Senate seats or placing consecutive term limits on Senate seats. I'd rather expand the number of seats than reduce it (I don't support either, FYI) We have a lot of legislation, some even supported by me, that shouldn't be a federal issue, rather than a regional issue. As President, I hope to return some of those issues back to the regional government, where they always belonged. I'll outline some specific examples later on in the campaign.
