Or maybe this is Palin's way of avoiding a Presidential race herself - http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/exclusive-president-michele-bachmann/story?id=12542453

You would think that if the goal is to stop Palin, it would not be a good idea to look to someone who will make Palin look presidential by comparison.

I think this is Bachmann's way of being insane.

But don't worry, Phil; even if Palin runs, she won't be the nominee.

Bachmann doesn't have either the name recognition or the zealous base that are Palin's only strengths. If anything she might help Palin to profile herself as a 'more sensible' Tea Party alternative.

Sure, why else do you think she's running?

Well, I can see Bachmann saying yes before most any other Republican. If Bachmann get the nom, I'd love for her to pick Rep Turner of Ohio so we could make Bachmann/Turner overdrive jokes Wink

Hilarious as a Bachmann presidential campaign would obviously be, I'd rather that she'd run for Senate so Kolbuchar will be safe.

Phil,

It seems a little desperate to rely on Michele Bachmann.  If backbencher Bachmann's all you got, well, I may be understating Palin's victory margin.

I don't think Bachmann is looking at a Senate run.  She'd be crazy to think she can win against Klobuchar MN without a third-party liberal helping her out.  That state is as far-left as people make it out to be notwithstanding the fluke wins from Pawlenty earlier this decade that really only happened because of a third-party.

The better bet is that Pawlenty and Romney are trying one last ditch effort with Bachmann because Huckabee and Pence aren't cooperating as neither of these two tools are running.

I could see Pawlenty encouraging this if they have any sort of relationship.

They do.  I believe they've known each other for awhile when they were both mediocre legislators.

Who knows?  Anything's possible with enough media attention.  I don't think Palin will win either way.  Anyone going into an election with as high disapproval as she does can't win.

Bachmann can't stop Palin, I doubt Bachmann would really even run. In the event she did run, Palin would remain the front runner for the nomination.

If you thought Nancy Pelosi was an easy target for caricature, then just think of Michelle Bachmann even if she is in no formal role of House authority.

I'm starting to think that Jimmy McMillan will be the most serious candidate on the Republican side.

Obviously Bachmann can't stop Palin, however, Bachmann could become Palin if Palin decides not to run... not for the obvious reasons, although they would both being going after roughly the same portion of the GOP vote, but because Bachmann, like Palin and unlike Romney, Gingrich, Pence, etc. is a media creature and "starlet".

Adding to the speculation on this, it looks like Bachmann donated a bunch of money to Iowa candidates in the midterms:

Looks like she read the old posts about how her district is the most likely to be dismantled, and hasn't caught up on Minnesota not losing a seat after all.

She has way more campaign money than she knows what to do with, why not dream big?
