I doubt that Jared Lee Loughner has read either book.

If he had a non-insane accomplice, then that would be the person we should try to draw any political motivations from.

I really hope it was just some seriously disturbed loner and not part of something bigger.

Apparently this guy used to post on some conspiracy website called Above Top Secret under the name Erad3. Most of his posts follow the same weird "If __. If __. Therefore, __." pattern his videos do. Search his user name on the site to see the rest of his posts, they're pure, undiluted crazy.

Why is that political "assassins" always get referred to by their full names?

I'd hate to be the other Jared Loughner of Tucson, Arizona.

Yeah, seems like an anti-government loner with some serious issues (who may have been used as a tool by someone else, which is quite a scary thought)

I'd almost be willing to bet this guy had some idolizing of Timothy McVeigh or the UNAbomber or someone like that going on.

'Anti-government' being the key word.

At this point I'm more interested in learning who's "the other guy" (if he exists) than JLL.

See, garbage like this is not productive.

Anyways; relevant portion from that KTLA story:

So, you can be left-wing and seduced by right-wing populist speeches.

I know the guy who started as a far-right wing nuts, become somehow far-left wing nuts, before returning to being a far-right nuts.

He shot a lot of people - killed 6 of them including a 9 year old - he's just nuts.

what kind of  left winger likes Mein Kampf?

What king of right winger lists the Communist Manifesto as one of his favorite books?

Actually, some of his friends referred to him as "left wing."  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/09/us/politics/09shooter.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=all

He shot a lot of people - killed 6 of them including a 9 year old - he's just nuts.

That is probably accurate.

Actually, listing Plato as one of his favorite authors puzzles me far more than Marx or Hitler.  That's just me, though.  I have met others that list Meno as one of their favorite books and they're all slightly nutty and take Plato's argument that we already know everything and just have to remember it too seriously.  (In that story, Socrates helps an illiterate slave learn geometry not by teaching him, but by jogging his memory a bit.)

Probably jut the random Plato stand-in. People, I don't want to break your minds here, but I serriously doubt the guy ever read more than half of the stuff on his Myspace, just trying to appear 'deep' IMHO.

We know where the whole insane "anti-government" rhetoric stands politically in the US, thankee you very much. And we've always felt it to be quite dangerous, and it's led to violence under the last Democratic administration as well.
That's quite enough.
You don't have to suppose every Republican or even any "anti-government" conspiracy theorist is remotely interested in political violence. It would be incredibly foolish to do so. (Nor do you need to assume this guy approved of Timothy McVeigh... their stated motives are closely related though.)

If you list Brokeback Mountain as one of your favorite movies, does that mean you are gay?

To be fair, I think Alexander said burning a flag meant he didn't seem like a typical Tea partier, not an ideology.

I'm not trolling, but I do strongly suggest these suggestions that this is somehow the the GOP's fault, because of these nonexistent right wing views that he's supposedly expressed.
