Socialist International Survivor - Organisation and Results
«
on:
January 11, 2011, 12:53:55 pm »
Member Parties of the Socialist International Survivor
We have 2 groups with all full member parties of the Socialist International. Not included are the Consultative and Observer parties.
GROUP A
GROUP B
The Rule of this Survivor:
Like in the Pope Survivor we eliminate first 3 Parties in every Group.
In the case of a tie, this party is eliminated who has more previous votes.
Is then still a tie, this party who comes from the bigger country is out.
Are both from the same country, I will decide who is eliminated.
You can change your vote only if I, Comrade Hans, allow it. Is there an invalid vote I send normally a PM to the voter.
Have Fun

I know my NY Governors is a bit slow in its beginning, but do you want me to suspend it while you're out of your home ?
We are a big number voting, so I think it wouldn't be a problem for our "usual suspects"
.
And I won't start my Roman Emperors before being sure you'll be in
(anyway, I wait for Magic's comeback).

The evil Slovakian Smer, many parties from small countries and the PRI is eliminated. The PRI without my vote
, but I wanted to eliminate it in the next rounds too
.
To your question AL, what is wrong with the DSA?
I can speak only for me, but I voted to eliminate it, because it is a completely insignificant party in a very large country. This is enough for me to vote for the DSA

You could go even further and argue that they're barely a political party, merely a pressure group. But at least they actually
belong
, unlike some of the parties that became members when Carlsson was Secretary-General.

Oh, I was just underlining the irony of me not voting for Sandidnistas.
But, well, it's more for historical reasons that I don't want to kill it in the early rounds. At least, Nicaragua in the 1980s was fascinating, with all these wings inside Sandinistas, with Eden Pastora, etc. And the issue of a "cubanization" that was both wanted (by some like Borge) and forced by Reagan's policy.
Walloon Socialists are of far lesser interest, I believe

Oh no, it's a real great idea, and it's already very enjoyable, with our votes spread between those who vote based upon current and more moral criterions and those who vote based on historical background.
That's a very fine "debate" and each side has arguments, even if they remain... hidden
So, once again, very good idea, Hans.

Why are so many parties called "Rally"? Labor-activism roots, perhaps?
Maybe Fab or Hash can answer this better.
Rally or in French Rassemblement is in the French-speaking countries often a part of the name of the party, whether left or right. Maybe it just sounds good

In French or formerly French countries, this has a Gaullist taste: the organization is meant NOT to be a party, a political party, as, for de Gaulle, parties were "dirty", messy, dysfunctional, inefficient.
A "Rally" is a gathering of citizens,
en masse
around a leader who knows where general interest and national future lies...
And in a leader, you can trust; in a party, you can't, as it has hidden deals and shenanigans.
Of course, there is some irony to see that movements in Guinea, for example, may still use the word "rally", after half a century of more or less sovietized dictatorship....

Thanks for the explanation. The Gaullist conception of loose, personality-centered coalitions is largely foreign to us Yanks, I think.

After my failure to save Mongolia, I'm trying to save Paraguay, thus dropping PASOK
(and, frankly, Iceland's SD has no real interest: I know it's a surpising vote, but not so much in fact
).

Yeah, it's at time like this that it's useful to be able to read the spanish wikipedia which has a lot more information of the Revolutionary Febrerista Party (or Partido Revolucionario Febrerista
) of Paraguay than the english version.

Don't worry Ben. We will tell nobody that you voted against PASOK
A bad round for Chile, but they hold with 3 parties the most members. Cape Verde is still in the race. This makes me on one side happy, but I don't think they are worth to be in the Final group.
This is the last round with 2 groups.
