Please proceed with yours.  I can assure you yours will be much more believable.  Smiley

I'm planning on doing it after I finish "America and Onward".

Also, was the painter George Romney even connected to the Romney family we're talking about?

Good updates, though, as you admitted, far to biased towards the Romney family.

To be fair, we all have some bias.

I guess so. I guess I've been somewhat biased towards the Goldwaters in some of my timelines despite not agreeing with them on a number of issues.

I'm guessing that since this has so many Romneys involved in politics, it will have Vern Romney of Utah (failed gubernatorial candidate in 1976 I think) and Scott Romney of Michigan (failed AG candidate in 1998).

I was hoping that butterflies would make Taft or MacArthur the 1952 nominee...

...So there's a Romney in the Harding (and most likely Coolidge), Hoover, and Roosevelt Administrations, and each one of them a different Romney, not to mention a one-term Vice-Presidency and one-term Presidency by Gaskell Romney? There's a Romney involved in every Presidential Administration from 1921 to 1945, including the Presidency!

Sorry I haven't been reading in a while, great timeline and it looks like you put a lot of hard work into it.

By the way, I recognize the Calvin Coolidge segment from wikipedia, but still, great work.

After looking over some stuff, there's a Romney in every Presidential administration from 1921 to 1963! Forty-three years of at least at some level of effecting policy on the Presidential level!

C'mon man, you gotta have some butterflies! I'd think that with the presence of a political dynasty such as the Romneys, given how much power they've had since the twenties, there'd be a much more viable and strong moderate wing that could at some point change something, like say Dewey winning in 1948 or Eisenhower picking someone else, or Nixon choosing Rockefeller for VP in 1960, or Rocky or Scranton winning the nomination or Goldwater choosing a more moderate VP pick.

Good work. I'm interested to see who'll be in Romney's cabinet & who he'll pick for Vice-Presudent.

While George Romney was a moderate, maybe Liberal Republican, Edward Brooke was most definitely a Liberal. Tongue

I could actually see Nixon & Rocky's cabinet posts switched up. Both had a large amount of foreign policy experience, but Nixon served in the military. I can actually see Rocky getting the same attacks Cheney & Rummy would get decades earlier.

What's with all the random spaces between sentences? I assumed they were pictures that weren't popping up, but when I pressed the "quote" button to see, there was just space.

The spaces were still there. In this (below), that's what it would look like without the spaces.

The Republican National Convention opens in Miami Beach, Florida, Monday,  August 5, 1968. The eyes of the nation are on the convention, waiting to hear George Romney's vision for America. But before the nominee and his pick for Vice President, Senator Edward Brooke, address the convention, the nation is to hear from some famous Americans on the important issues of the day. Governor Nelson Rockefeller will deliver the keynote address and will discuss defense issues. Former Vice President Richard Nixon will address the issue of America and it's place in the world. Former Pennsylvania Governor William Scranton will address law and justice issues.
Business executive J. Willard Marriott will address financial and economic issues.

The convention opens.
The crowd starts chanting

In terms of "tax-and-spend", the nation was still attached to the New Deal and wouldn't necessarily oppose liberalism. It would seem that the nation began moving to the right around the late sixties, but liberal wasn't a dirty word in 1968, at least to my knowledge.

Nice! Just checking - is Lenore still a senator?

Lenore served only one term in the U.S. Senate, 1979-1985.  She was 77 after one term.

I didn't want to have her working in the Senate until she was 83 years old.

I think Lenore and Mitt may be the only mother and son to have both served in the Senate.
