Sponsor:  Senator Bgwah

Wiki Article of the Month Bill
1) In order to stimulate interest in and increase contributions to the Atlasia Wiki, a commission shall be created to select one article per month for its overall quality to be showcased on the main page of the Atlas Wiki, as well as in the main Atlasia sub-forum in a thread to be stickied by the Moderator General. The "Introduction to Atlasia" thread may be used for this purpose should the commission or Moderator General decide anymore stickied threads would clutter the main page.
2) The commission shall be officially known as the "Wiki Commission," and shall consist of three members; one Senator to be selected among the Senate, one citizen to be selected by the Senate (who may also be a Senator), and one citizen selected by the President. There will be no specified terms for the seats on the commission, but the Senate and President may replace their respective appointed members at any time they wish.

...Okay!! I promise I'll wait a little bit before introducing any more bills!! Tongue

I'm thinking this could be a way to stimulate interest in the Wiki. If you write an exceptional article, it will be showcased for all to read! Smiley

Speaking of exceptionalism, this is a very exceptional bill, Jesus. I urge my Senator to vote AYE on this fantastic piece of legislation. Smiley

Sure, as long as we have interest in it. Committees in the past have failed miserably, so I hope this one is different. Tongue

I support the idea for a Wiki article of the month, but for heaven's sake, an entire commission to pick a random article every month? Isn't that a bit overly bureaucratic for something incredibly simple? We shouldn't make it too complicated.

Echoing Duke and Marokai's sentiments, while I love the idea, I don't think a commission is necessary/a good idea. Maybe the President, in consultation with his cabinet, could pick it?

Well, I would happily serve on the commission... Tongue I purposely didn't define terms, so someone could remain on it indefinitely until they either quit or ertr fired. I was hoping that would keep it simple.

What would be a better way for determining the winner then? At least one person will have to coordinate it.

Maybe the Senate can handle that under the direction of an elected Senator responsible for the wiki. Such Senator would create a thread in which any Senator may nominate, discuss and finally vote for the article of the month.

Personally, I think there are more than three people interested in the Wiki who would like to participate. I understand the hesitation due to past committees, though... But I would like to serve on it, so 1/3 down! Smiley

Well, I for one would like to serve on the Commission. So that is 1/3 right there! It would seem kind of silly to have just one person pick it.

Maybe, if you guys really don't want a commission, we could have one person/Senator pick 3-5 nominees, and then the Senate could vote on the article... But that also sounds like a lot of effort. Come up with some ideas if you don't like the current bill (though it would be preferable if you gave me a chance to reply before you officially proposed it as an amendment Wink)

What about having the Attorney General pick one? They already have some wiki responsibilities already, so, it would fit.

Although I suppose you could also try the commission, see if it works out, and if not, change it later. Stimulating activity is worth a shot, at least, I suppose.

Does that mean you think the article of the month idea is a bad one? If not, how would you propose deciding what the article of the month is?

It's a great idea, but do we really need a committee to decide? They normally end up with one really active member and several inactive ones, so why not cut out the middle men and have it one or two people who care?

Note: one or two people does not constitute a committee - rather a few concerned citizens.

2/3! I also think this is a great way to try and get Atlasians more involved in Wiki affairs, and would love to help work on it.

Are people really going to argue over a Wiki article? Maybe the AG could break the tie in the event of one.

I think the Senate could handle this pretty well. If Senator bgwah thinks a comitee would be better, I have no problem giving it a try anyways. In any case, I strongly support this bill. Smiley

I'd love to be in the committee as well.

I'm supporting this application with my record as AG.
