I confess I wasn't expecting to see Senator Richard Lugar at the forefront pushing for a renewal of this ban.

Oh, and I would vote 'no'.

It's not a high priority for me....but I'd likely support it.

I would probably vote no as I generally believe that how dangerous a gun is is determined mostly by the person handling it and not the gun itself, though there are exceptions.

I would vote no, though it hardly matters if it's anything like the original AWB, which served no purpose other than to pander to suburbanites.

More proof that Lugar is an evil fascist ass.  Here's hoping the IN-GOP kicks him out in 2012.

If by evil fascist ass.....you mean one of the better senators from either party, then yeah, I agree.

Good luck.
The Indiana GOP loves them some gun grabbers (hell they just put Dan Coats back into office).  Hell, the Indiana Democratic Party is probably more pro-gun rights than the Indiana GOP (from what I've seen).  Too bad they support Obama's retarded big government agenda.
Actually, now that I think about it when it comes to electing politicians.....Indiana fails.

Before somebody brings up that I live in Oklahoma and have no right to call Indiana a failure I never said we succeeded in that area either.

If members vote for the AWB, are they anti-gun?

Curious as to your thoughts...........personally, I say no they're not.

Yeah, anybody who votes for the Assault Weapons Ban may likely be anti-gun.

I would vote in favor of the Assault Weapons Ban. Assault Weapons are clearly crafted for an offensive attack whereas the only purpose to bear arms under the 2nd amendment is for the self-defense of an individual, something a simple handgun can adequately accomplish.

We the Tea Party will do what we can to primary him. Our strongest shot (Pence) is likely running for governor or president.

As for the question at hand, I would wholeheartedly oppose any sort of assault weapons ban.

Assault weapons includes some types of guns, does it not?

I am in favor of some forms of gun control but do not think that the assault weapons ban was effective the first go around or that bringing it back would have any appreciable affect on crime.

No. I just don't see how this is a big deal. Can't people just keep their guns? Hell, I don't want to go to prison for having a gun in my house when some dick was trying to break into it and I didn't have time to wait for the cops.

Exactly. What if there was a riot? ...or if the government (most likely the local government) went rogue?  (this argument probably has more validity on my side of the aisle when an R is President...especially one who listens to neocons(I basically have accepted the fact that its intellectually lazy/dishonest to call every big government/deficit conservative/pro-lifer a neocon))

LOL

I take it that you never heard the aphorism "The best defense is a good offense."

In any case, the AWB as it was constituted was a very silly piece of gun control legislation.  About the only feature of it that made any sort of rational sense were the limits on magazine size.

Of course.  The poors need to be kept in their place, after all.
