# Hatch beats Matheson (who is known to appeal to many moderate Republicans in his 2nd Congressional District) among the GOP voters – 70-22 percent.  But Matheson beats Hatch 81-6 percent among Democrats and, more importantly, 51-37 percent among independent voters, Jones found.

# Matheson beats Hatch 48-38 percent in Matheson’s 2nd District, not a good sign for Hatch, while the senior center beats Matheson in the other two U.S. House seats.

# Matheson beats Hatch in Salt Lake County, which makes up about 40 percent of the state’s population, 48-40 percent. Hatch beats Matheson in the rest of the state.

# Hatch beats Matheson by 9 percentage points among men, but Hatch tops Matheson by only 2 percentage points among women.

# Matheson beats Hatch among 20-something voters, but loses to him in most of the other age brackets.

Hatch won't survive his primary.

True as this is, I suspect this is a joke poll. Only leading Matheson by 7%? In Utah? Being, y'know, Orrin Hatch?

I'm not buying it in the least.

Is Chaffetz considering a run?

Matheson is probably to his right (would be interesting results...), and I doubt Huntsman will run.

He's been aiming for one, apparently, ever since Bennett was defeated. Hatch claims that Chaffetz "promised he wouldn't run," but Chaffetz has insisted that he made no such deal.

Given that this is Utah, Huntsman as Senator would be awesome (better than Matheson, actually)

If Chaffetz said that, he's clearly gearing up for a run.

Any indication at all Huntsman's considering running?

Dan Jones polls tend to be no joke polls, but rather close to the actual results.

None, at least as far as I can tell. I doubt Utah Republicans will actually be that open to voting for him again, on that note, given he's been in the Obama administration for a fair while now(albeit as just an ambassador).

Ehh, UT-GOP seems to have very open-minded and high-information voters in its primaries.

I wouldn't call him moderate. Intelligent might be a better word.

Well, he's a toast, just like Bob Bennett. I must say, although I disagree with Hatch on most of the issues, it's a shame. This seat won't go Democratic anyway (Tongue), and now, after all, very experienced and intelligent, we have to admit despite all differences, Senator, who have a record of some common sense and working across the lines to achieve common goals, is going to be replaced by just another, useless Tea Party idiot, who don't know Senate is about work, not obstructing every s**t.

This is GOP now.

1. Chaffetz is a Representative. I'm pretty sure he knows how to, you know, represent.
2. Orrin Hatch has made collected efforts to destroy the Internet. I don't see how anything can redeem that.

There does happen to be a long tradition of useless idiots permeating the House, though, so point 1 doesn't make that much sense.

Be that as it may, my main point was to refute Kal's point that Chaffetz is apparently a random Tea Party nobody.

Indeed, Chaffetz was elected before the Tea Party became a dominant force. Given the ultra-conservative nature of Utah, he probably wouldn't need the Tea Party to successfully primary Senator Hatch anyway.

Huntsman is not going anywhere now in either Utah and on national scene.

1. He's moderate. Real one, not fake moderate.
2. "Hey, buddy, you worked for Obama!

Subsamples look suspiciously accurate. Tongue

Yeah, Utah voters are in an ugly mood. I don't think that's to be doubted. Have been for a while.

Did they not poll Matheson against Chaffetz or Huntsman, or were the results just too ugly? Also ought to have polled the straight Chaffetz-Hatch primary. I suppose Chaffetz wins by more than three in that.

Doesn't change the fact that Chaffetz has been chomping at the bit for that seat since Bennett lost.
